There are hundreds of thousands released each year and quite a large number aren't shot so that means there are even more because they are breeding. At certain times of the year, they are like flies there are so many. The farmers won't miss a few

It's like the flocks you sometimes come across on the railway. They must have come from somewhere i.e. escaped and started breeding. I once ploughed into a flock of them, there were multiple bangs.
