Posted this on another thread but it does seem to be a reasonable alternative.

Being held at Harewood House and being billed as the ceremonial start of the Tour as the ride from Leeds is going to be a procession and the riders are stopping off for a short break and photoshoot before setting off in anger to get started properly.

So how do you sell something for less than it is worth then ?
That is easy and takes very little effort.

I know I have said this before, but Yorkshire have made a pig's arse of this - a county in gridlock is not what is needed for the Tour.

Council have planned road closures from 08:00 on all roads in use on the route through Calderdale.
How they'll manage the A629 remains to be seen.

Colin, I assume I can cycle in / if needed use the canal to get in n out?
Ah, that could be a plan! You would still have to cross the A646 by the former Walkley's Clogs factory but that should be ok.

I suppose it depends how crazy the crowd sizes get. The way they are being hyped up now, it almost sounds like the entire routes will be lined with people!

I have a problem ... I would need to go to my chosen vantage point early to be sure of a good spot, but my bad leg can't take hours of me standing up. I might take a fold-up chair out with me. Trouble is, I struggle to sit on a chair for hours too. Looks like I will have to play a long game of TdF musical chairs!

standing for any time is an issue for me too, I do think if its going to be a case of getting there hours before, that i'll have to just watch it on the tele
