Because renting my spare room to a stranger for a night seems like a good opening plot for a chainsaw massacre horror film!
Which should start to explain why making money is not as easy as some people may think.^_^

i was wondering a bit about where i could watch the TdF pass by - is there a route map out?
There is, but it's pretty pricey. You're in luck though, cos I've managed to get hold of a few, know wot I mean? Yours for £20. No, seeing as it's you - just this once - I'll let you have one for a tenner, but I'm robbing myself.

Here's the route:

But if you search around there's tons of info on the web.

"Holme Moss Camping – Possibly the only level campsite near the Holme Moss climb on the Tour de France, Holme Moss Camping offers a two-night (Saturday and Sunday) stay for £250. This is for a non-electric grass pitch with facilities including: fresh water, toilets (eight in each field), rubbish and recycling units."

aka camping in a field for £125 a night.

I have relatives in York who've commented on the excessive profiteering going on. They mentioned that similar extortionate price rises took effect back in 2005, when York Racecourse hosted Royal Ascot (due to Ascot being refurbished), but hotels and B&B's ended up with many empty rooms, as nothing like the expected numbers turned up, due to the silly prices.

£125 per night just for a pitch on a camp site is ridiculous.

Just look back to 2012 Olympic period. "Buget" chain hotel in London - £300 per room per night. Usual price under £100. When it didn't sell out, price reverted to a more sensible figure. Hotel filled. Supply and demand modified to price and credibility. If people want to pay a silly price it's up to them. Any price is only an offer, if the vendor can't sell their product then they will adjust accordingly. Business, innit?

Why are places so keen for Le Tour to visit them? So they can make some money of course, no other reason.

You would all like a bit more dosh, just most people do not have a go get mode fitted. I can see the green eyed monster again.

Envy of money? Some of us are a bit more mature than that.

I was in the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics in London, and booking about 4 weeks ahead got a room at the Travelodge in the Docklands for 4 nights for a total of £160. Only 4 miles ride to the stadium

Some being the big word.

Given that you mentioned it, you obviously think that it's something to be envious of - the thought never even entered my head that it would involve envy rather I saw it as people seeing the prices as them being over-charged. I understand the concepts of capitalism, however I'm not going to the Tour as I see the costs as "too much"; I could quite easily afford to go at the prices being asked but don't see the prices as worth paying.

I was having a discussion with another forum member who had decided that you were a complete dick, with this Harry Loadsamoney Enfield schtick you always come out with. I told him that you were probably a normal, caring human being on a bit of a wind-up. Which of us is right?
Go on, enlighten me.
