Is it a 9:30 meet HPC still?

Yup, 9.30 @ HPC.

Wow, I was drunk last night.

I'm sure I remember you mentioning Swains Lane.

A quick little gpx route shown here.

Following another request from elsewhere, I'll postpone Swains Lane for another time. Tomorrow we're going to have a meander along the Thames in a vaguely westward direction instead.

There were several alleged "Sunday London Rides" and the one I did involved neither Mista Preston nor Arallsopp so I probably shouldnt be posting it in this thread - it was a Sunday London Ride without the ride founders  ! It was in fact 30 lovely miles around west London.^_^

Although a little chilly in the shade and a slight haze in the air, Spring is definitely here! I rode a couple of laps around Hyde Park and then down to HPC to meet up with Flying Dodo, TC1 and Sig. TC1 and Sig were heading East as Sig hasn't ridden to the Olympic Stadium before. Flying Dodo and I were heading west along the river on a fabulously well plotted route which had a 550 ft or so climb in total!!! Perfect!

We headed down Constitution Hill, no sign of G Brown, past Buckingham Palace and into Parliament Square (a little empty in comparison to Wednesdays 2000 Flashriders) along and over Lambeth bridge from where we made our way to Hammersmith Bridge. Once North of the river again, we thought about cycling along the (closed) Flyover not least for the array of puns "Flying Dodo flies over the Fly over" but we weren't quite at the right spot to join it so we weaved our way Northwards past Brook Green then up to Nothing Hill Gate and into Hyde Park. By this time the park was so full of people - all out enjoying the day - creating a very relaxed atmosphere. Some skiers on skis with ski poles, others blading, a barrage of Boris Bicyclists, it was as though Londoners had come out of hibernation at last.

At Marble Arch we hesitated to take in the Speeches at Speakers Corner, hoping we might find 'Teef but no such luck. Flying Dodo headed North and I headed South down Park Lane, incorporating a loop round to Trafalgar Square then onwards home to bring my miles up to 30. A great day followed by a couple of brilliant football matches...!!! I took some snaps https://picasaweb.google.com/108733...authkey=Gv1sRgCMrQ5YHyic7-gAE&feat=directlink

I hope all the other Sunday London Rides and Riders had a great day too!

M:hello:

After worrying people with an 18% ascent of Swains Lane, I found as an alternative, a 16.5 mile flat route along the Thames, which was really very pleasant (apart from the bit around Vauxhall).

Heading down the A5 from West Hampstead station to HPC, I had a big incentive to keep the speed up:-

As mentioned above, it was just me and Mice, so we went sarf of the river, past Battersea Power Station (decided not to buy it), a quick spin around the Peace Pagoda in Battersea Park

and then spotted an odd tracked vehicle manoeuvring off the Thames.

After googling Cone Penetration testing, it must have been looking at the load bearing strength of the mud flats. We then followed the Embankment, admiring all the rowers, before cutting across the Barnes Wetland Centre, going across Hammersmith Bridge, then on a cycle path under the flyover, before zig-zagging on back roads back to the top of Hyde Park, which as Mice said, was absolutely full of people enjoying the sunshine.

The gpx for the route (plus my return back to West Hampstead) is shown here whilst all the photos are shown here.
