Beans for lunch?
A wind speed of 183kmh (114mph) brought by Storm Eowyn has been recorded in Ireland, the fastest since records began, Irish forecaster Met Eireann said.
Now awaiting Drago coming along and saying they had that every other Tuesday when he grew up!!!
Well, the wind has done something useful here... The door to this room blew open again and I wondered where the air was going to. It turns out that a disused (and disconnected) gas fire still has an open flue. That means that I have spent 9 winters chucking heat up there. No wonder my feet get cold!
The chimney has a ventilated cap to stop rain getting in but that should hopefully stll let damp out if I block the flue down here? (I will search for advice on that now.)

I have just been reading conflicting advice about that. I think I will remove the fire, board over the opening, and put a closable vent in the board. I will close the vent when the heating is on and open it to let air through the flue at night or any other time that the heating is off.I think the way to go was always to vent at the inlet to prevent condensation build up but the thinking on this may have changed.
does it have an aluminium flue liner ? gas things usually doWell, the wind has done something useful here... The door to this room blew open again and I wondered where the air was going to.
