does it have an aluminium flue liner ? gas things usually do
would it matter if that got a bit damp on the inside - may be block it for the winter or when you use your heating and let the air flow other times
I can't see without taking the fire out.

What I have done for now is to stuff an old fleece jacket in there. (The zip is broken and it isn't worth replacing it so it doesn't matter if it gets damaged further.) I will take it out in a couple of weeks time and see whether it feels damp. Obviously, if there are any signs of damp issues on the chimney breasts, I will think again.

None of the other 3 bricked-up former fireplaces in the house have airbricks and there have not been any signs of damp so far. I can't see a problem arising now, after a decade plus since they were closed off.

Getting back to the weather... I just went for a walk rather than a ride. I kept thinking that it might have been okay to have been on the bike but then a sudden strong gust of crosswind would hit me. Just the kind of thing to blow an unwary cyclist out in front of an overtaking vehicle. Better to be cautious and live to ride another day! Tomorrow is looking much calmer. Still windy, but not dangerously so.

It’s been a totally wild afternoon, the peak was between 1.30 and 2.30 but even now at 6.30 the gusts are still 60 mph. Thankfully we never lost power and from what I can see the roof appears to be intact and the trees and fences still standing. Hopefully will be able to venture out tomorrow.

Live coverage there on BBC News of the webcam on Largs pier.
That popped up on my Facebook. Hopefully nobody was daft enough to go for a walk in that.
Did you see the overturned van on the Kingston Bridge?
I would have thought the bridge would be closed.

That was me half cycling half pushing the bike on my return commute, at 5 pm.
I was not worried: the commute is only a few miles, I know where the wind tunnels are on the route.
This morning, after looking at the hourly forecast, I left half an hour before my usual.
No wind, no rain, the quiet before the storm!

We had a full day of the dreaded hoolie. Trees down all around us, including one that fell over the only access to a few houses on the street. We cleared that with the help of a chainsaw fairy that just appeared, zip-zapped the branches and disappeared.
That was an interesting exercise, cutting branches in super high winds. Five men attended and all of us were blown off our feet at one point or another.

Now there's a mountain of pine tree in our street but also lots of people with woodpiles and log fires here. Most of that will go soon.

I see Pat braved the bike. Nuts that lass. Maybe she went downwind and broke her 5mph record?

Our wheelie bin is still traveling north on the A82. It's a blue one, if anyone sees it.

Power was out all day. Now back. Thank you SSE linesmen.

The place is pretty wrecked. But...the bikes are ok. Thanks for asking.
