Not by the time one gets to the platform, for most lights at most through station platforms.

Eh, how long do you think the stand lights last?

bylaw (n.) also by-law, late 13c., bilage "local ordinance," from Old Norse or Old Danish bi-lagu "town law," from byr "place where people dwell, town, village," from bua "to dwell" (from PIE root *bheue- "to be, exist, grow") + lagu "law" (see law). So, a local law pertaining to local residents, hence "a standing rule of a corporation or association for regulation of its organization and conduct."

I am so glad I bothered to wake up this morning!

I work in the industry. Given the choice of changing standards or changing the mind of a train driver, I'd be straight off to the Standards writers.

Just turn the light off or cover it up and stop arguing.

I think we ran out of things to argue about a while ago. But arguments have their own momentum, even when nobody seems to particularly disagree. It's always possible to take issue with the details of a post 3 pages ago to keep it simmering

It happens for all dynamo lights with an off switch. As soon as you switch it off, both run and rear will be running off their super capacitors and the discharge countdown begins.
I'm left wondering why anyone would design an off switch that doesn't discharge the capacitor when the lights are switched off.

I think you're wrong there. This is a disagreement not an argument. I think the fact we're am being pleasant with each other means it's a disagreement not an argument.

Also, it us not simmering because we are now moving on to standlight discharge times and how to spell byelaw.

My dynamo has stand light, around 4 or 5 minutes. It doesn't turn off so I just keep the bike facing across the platform so it can't be seen by on coming trains. Simple really. Never been mentioned by any staff at stations except once and he wandered off as I was facing across the platform.

I agree it's not an argument. Help us/me here: who are you disagreeing with; and about what?
Before I even typed "byelaw" upthread I checked what the best (proper) English spelling was, as I anticipated this line of chat: #notdisappointed .
No byelaws mention red lights (citation needed) so not displaying lights (on platforms) is good practice and mentioned in guidance for cyclists taking their bike on a train.

Well your real world experience is unusual to say to least. What front light do you hsve it paired with?
It was used with an Axa Pico, a Nean Versand, and a numbered Union light. I've also seen someone else's stay on a long time and that was used with an Axa Blueline. I'm surprised they're selling for £19.99 as they used to be about half that!
