Ok, this is annoying me now...

I can remember two out of the four and one I am not sure of

Mar
Atholl
Possably Argyll but that was my boarding house name so think that is wrong ;)

I have just even spent ages hunting the website of the school but can not find any mention of them..

I will admit to a quick google to confirm the name of one of my school's houses.

I'm firmly with marinyork on this one. What on earth are you lot on about?!

They are arbitrary groupings of the pupils to foster competition and division within the school.

Like Hogwarts but without the hat, or at least we didn't have a hat.

OK cheers. Did you all go to private fee-paying schools? It sounds very Old School and stuff. Maybe we just never had them in Sheffield!

No. My school is a tad rough, and its basicly just split to mate tutor groups and assemblies easier. The mixing of the years helps mixing bewteen the years, so theres not the seperations with the years.
And it means there can be good competition between the houses when it comes to sport:evil:
I was in tigers, only thing that sybalised the houses were coloured bands(mine was red) around the collar of the polo shirt and the arm bits had red bands on aswell. Red piping is probably the word:wacko:

Were you at MCS or Liverpool College? The Chavasse family seemed to collect medals - Noel was one of only 3 to get VC and bar...pretty heroic guy.

Hmmm, they all sound made up to me. Very unlikely sounding names to me. Is this some kind of word association thread I'm not getting, I can't see the link between different people's posts .

Junior schools had coluors that seened to shift by season etc. The Grammer school had four

Cavendish - School bdge in red
Coverley - School badge in yellow
Fairfax - School badge in Green
Foster - Badge in blue.

Each badge was in the form of the yorkshire rose and included the moto "Discipline for Service"
