Coming home last night I took a side road which I have been using for years, smallish road with cars parked either side goes past local shops as you get the other end it bottle necks due to parked cars. As I got near the school I could hear someone blasting their horn I am in centre of the road at this point as there are parked cars, also even though there the school is shut there are still goups that use it so I always ride with a bit a caution past it. Idiot starts shouting try to force his way through and force me off the road, once the prick has managed to over take then decides to do a punishment pass pushing his bonnet to the curb swearing away over took at speed well over 30 which is maximum down there shouting and swearing about it. I wish the runt had got out the car.as would have liked to discussed his driving,. I dont have a video got his plate number is this worth reporting as this idiot is goiing to kill someone one day or is it a complete waste of time.

They never get out of their cars. That's what makes them think they are entitled. Just a coward. Another one of life's aresholes.

Just ignore him. Indeed, when faced with such a berk I'd go even slower on the basis that if he did cause a collision there would be less kinetic energy at hand.

Pointless reporting it without either evidence or another witness. Without some kind of corroboration it's your word against theirs, thus the threshold for prosecution isn't close to being met.

Deep breath time. The important thing for now is you're not hurt. When you're feeling a little steadier go and get camera'd up so next time you can put the prat in front of a court.

Report it. Please. A court date may help us, as their behaviour probably won't change.

Without evidence to support it then the police cannot take action as one word against another.

Hence I record my rides on video so in the event of an incident like this (yep it's happened) I send in clip to Operation Snap and let them deal with it. Often results in a court appearance for driver with a nice big fine and points on licence.

yeah thought that would be the case have been avoiding getting a video camera as dont want to upload and report people or upload to youtube like some, just want a quiet life but think choice has been made for me now.

Mikey has been assaulted at least once and the protagonist got found not guilty on court, so his style seems a bit of a dangerous means of keeping oneself safe.

Cycling Mikey is an utter end of a bell. No doubt he started out with good intentions but now it's all click bait content designed to get him revenue and publicity on youtube. If he just cycled normally and reported any incidents then that's fine, it's what I do. However, his entire purpose in life and bike rides is to seemingly peer into car windows to see if anyone is on their phone. Then a finger wagging lecture to driver and quite often he is insulting, patronising and downright abusive. I've seen enough of his videos to state this!

Anyway. Even though live and ride in a quiet rural/coastal area I still get close passes etc every week and I got fed up with it hence now have camera on bike. I don't go looking for it and I dont even consider phone useage although quite often I'll see drivers coming other way on phones.

Yes. Report it using 101 phone number. At the very least an incident will be recorded with the plate and driver details, should they be needed in the future.

This is unfortunately the sad state of affairs. About 18 months ago some nut was driving like a maniac, tried getting around me on a blind bend and nearly hit an oncoming car. As he passed me I was shaking my head (to myself, didn't say anything or make any gestures to him). He obviously saw and took exception to this, slammed his brakes on and started to get out of the car. Fortunately the clown had been driving like this for a couple of miles, dangerously overtaking etc. Another driver with a dashcam had decided to follow him just in case and pulled in between me and said nutjob to warn him off.

Fortunately I don't get many instances of bad driving but when I do I now just ignore it, no words/gestures/eye contact. I have actually found that just letting it go as though it never happened is a far better way of dealing with it for me personally. Although I completely understand people who want to report it.

What an idiot. It's probably not worth reporting without footage though. Unless you find the vehicle is not taxed or MOTd?

Avon & Somerset have a "near-miss" reporting page for cases where people don't have camera footage, no contact is made with the driver at all.

I am really not sure what purpose that serves, although they say they use it to check locations where they might do some enforcement at some stage (presumably by sending an officer out on patrol to that place or a mobile speed camera etc).

Having a camera is essential for unpleasant encounters like yours. How much you report or publicise is entirely up to you. Reporting bad driving can change their behaviour around cyclists.

It's sad that road life is like that, I had an aggressive incident much the same as the OP ,did, it's unwarranted and not wanted.
Yes ,report it by all means, but without evidence , little will come of it, I don't want to get camerad up every time I ride , it shouldn't need to be done, but something does need to be done about it.
If it happens that the offender gets out of the car next time then I shall robustly defend myself, should they make threatening behaviour,, a well placed pump handle ought to incapacitate very quickly.
Not something I'd condone or want to do, but lines need to be drawn.
Of course , in saying that I am opening myself to ridicule and admonishment, but frankly after more than 40 yrs on the road ,things like that have gone to far.
I'll not be bullied,
