Some interesting games. I still think SA are very good and could well beat Ireland in a final. They look the best two teams. France will struggle without their 9 but are at least level with NZ. Scotland look good to me along with wales, who have had one good match. FijI and England shouldn’t be underestimated in a backs against the wall situation. Australia were awful and not convinced about Argentina. Good tournament although the gaps between matches does allow interest to flag a bit.

QFs 2 and 4 are ridiculously hard compared with QFs 1 and 3.
I bet Fiji agree with that!

Only one world cup has been won by a northern hemisphere team....

Good point and quite surprising really? And no, I don't think we'll win it for the second time before anyone asks

If England do get to a semi v SA or France who knows? Been beaten by both of them in past 12 months, we would need to 100% 'peak' by Oct 15th for sure and need them to have sub-par games. Not getting carried away as Fiji is a big enough obstacle to all this wishful thinking

A real ding-dong game between Uruguay and Namibia at the moment. Could easily go either way.

However it will certainly dump Uruguay out of the tournament. Although they needed to beat New Zealand by more than 7 points, and scoring 4 tries to do so. So not really possible.

You could probably say the same for Italy in that group, but still in with a chance, some good results recently and fairly narrow losses to some of the big teams, that 24-29 v France? I would love to see them get to a QF. :okay:

Being an amateur team, most players only got permission from their employers for the group stages.

they would have had to ask for more leave from work if they qualified for the QF.

That didn't age well

Wow. NZ have just put in a huge marker.
Putting 100 points on a tier 2 team would be impressive, but no way should Italy be leaking that many points.
Impressive stuff.

Yes, that defeat in the first game has allowed them to go under the radar. I still think they are top 4.

After their first game I thought they looked miles off the pace, but they've done what they're best at and fortified. Still think they're lacking a bit creatively, but writing them off, as I foolishly did, is daft.

Well, we did our part last night. Played some lovely stuff too, Graham in sevens mode is a joy to watch. Hoping the Tongans can keep it respectable this evening, need all the help we can get going in to next weekend considering our poor record against Ireland.
