And why not?
We have an eclectic mix (this morning we had Thomas Tallis on, the other evening we listened to a program about the Beastie Boys), but Jazz is the genre in the collection which is growing fastest and that we listen to most. Like all music it's a broad-church, am certain everybody can find something they like within (though get a bit pissed when people say 'ooo I don't get/like Jazz).
Recorded for the Telly-box we have Oil City Confidential, and Miles Davis Birth of the Cool. Both equally enjoyable in my book....
A friend refers to some jazz genres as "when-does-the-tune-begin" music. In an affectionate way. I'm very fond of complicated music, have no tolerance for 'easy-listening'.
Yes you're right, anyone that has an interest in music would almost certainly be able to find something in the jazz world that they'd like
I don't have that many but this is my favourite of my jazz records:

The most interesting thing on this thread is the Jazz discussion, its a Genre I have difficulty with, I love some of it, but the free form stuff I don't understand, they all seem to be playing something completely different to each other it soon becomes unlistenable to (by me)
As a nod to the thread I do like St James Infirmary played in a New Orleans jazz funeral style as an entrance to the Crematorium for my funeral.
I agree; where's the interest in utterly predictable music?
I always think of jazz as primarily for the instrumentalist.....a sort of musical masturbation.
Rock guitar solos anyone?
I'm the only one 'out' it seems

Partial to a bit of Coltrane, Mingus and Parker when I want to chill

The Mingus 'Prom' some years back was magnificent!
