I'd never heard this story about the queen before but it's a cracker. What a great sense of humour she had...

It’s only a couple of hours, once in 70 years.
Spotify and youtube, plus all the streaming services are still pumping out their usual stuff.
Global Radio did the same, no Capital or Heart, just LBC across the network.
Except it's not, is it? They did it for Philip too. And Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. It's sick, some fawning royalists at broadcasters getting their jollies off from being able to cancel all programming other than what they believe people should listen to.

Announce it, tell people where to find more detail, then keep calm and carry on. Falling to bits is not very British. Keep it respectful and dignified but proportionate.

There's been two plans in place for a number of years now. One of those is being followed, and no-one is falling to pieces.

You may not like it, but those plans were agreed at a higher level than the BBC.

I suppose our National Anthem will now be changed to "God Save The King" and other changed words. It will seem odd for quite a while to hear it at football matches etc. I think it might be Last Night Of The Proms this coming Saturday. If so it'll be the first time we'll hear it at a prestigious event.🤔

Nope, they've pulled the plug on the Last Night of the Proms. And the Tour of Britain.

I was rather peeved to find my radio commentary of Zurich FC v Arsenal went *fzzzzzzzzt* at half time. And that was on Talksport, not on the BBC.

I'm with @mjr on this one. One channel per network is fine, but while it's a real moment in history, some of us just want to carry on with other things as well. We don't need wall to wall coverage *everywhere*

Sorry, having a real grumpypants moment. I blame a deficit of chocolate and football.

I suppose we'll all remember to our dying day, where we were, what we were doing when she passed away.🤔

Rather appropriately, we had left the news to walk to The Crown pub: dinner booked for 6:30.
We raised a glass: what a life well led!

I understand there are many who are against the British Monarchy, but I’m not sure I’ve seen a country where their alternatives appeal to me. I rather like that we can put on the various shows associated with them, & they do a lot of work as patrons of many great voluntary organisations.
I’m also somewhat bemused by those who claim to know little of what she did: she was a stable & lasting influence for pretty well all of our lifetimes 🤷‍♂️
Chronicled across the globe: even the early episodes of The Crown (Netflix) were very interesting for the younger generation to get a feel for things.

If all world leaders had her heart & desire to help the people they lead, then the world would be a much, much better place 🙏
RIP
