I feel the sadness too. It comes and goes in waves. As time goes by, we will become accustomed to new coinage, notes and stamps with the King's head on them, public buildings with heraldic emblems changed to the King's crown. It will be a long time before E II R disappears from public consciousness. There are isolated post boxes still with V R on them. King Charles III was a man of many opinions when he was Prince of Wales. He might find it hard to have to contain them now he is King, as his mother did.
For most people nothing will practically change, yet somehow our world is different today from yesterday.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, we don’t have any postboxes in Scotland with EIIR on them. Ours only show the Scottish crown instead, although someone forgot and installed one bearing the EIIR cypher in Dunoon a few years ago. It was swapped out after locals reported the error.

I feel the same as many who've already posted - not at all a monarchist but I had a lot of respect for the Queen as a person and I'm genuinely saddened (far more than I expected to be) by her loss.

It feels very odd to wake up and remember that such a consistant, intergral part of our country's national identity is now gone; one who's been present throughout my entire life.

The Queen's departure also feels like another step away from the halcyon days of post-war Great Britain; an icon lost whose image came to represent the legitimate national pride and cohesion of days past in todays climate of turmoil, individualism and decline.

The loss of a truly remarkable woman and the end of an era of unwavering service and dedication.

I don't think any of those left will ever come close to attaining the range or magnitude of respect she rightfully commanded.

I agree with much of this, but
the halcyon days of post-war Great Britain
is very far from how I think we'd feel if we were catapulted back 70 years.

Just for instance, I frequently cycle past Alan Turing's house.

I was there 70 years ago - we knew nothing else.
I remember watching the Coronation on the tiny-screened TV next door had bought specially for the occasion - TV sales rocketed. I remember the celebrations too - especially winning a prize for my 'wee willy winkie' costume in the street's fancy-dress competition. And all us children received cast metal crown money-boxes.

Will my 70th jubilee 50p now rocket in value?

She never was Queen Elizabeth II in Scotland....
