This made my brain hurt, but I think:
The son murdered the mother, assisted by the father, and the daughter was the witness.

If you count your bikes, and then count them again, you have still only counted the total amount of bikes you own!

But the question ask how many did you count not how many houses there was , so if you count them both there and back then you count 40 ,pedantic I know
