OK here's another approach, you've had it for years. Perhaps technology has moved on and you can buy a new mask that performs better at a fraction of cost. It could be the God of DIY telling you to visit ebay.
For the Love of God, don't encourage me to buy more stuff!!!! I'm trying to get rid of all the things I have accumulated over the years, in a final attempt to enter a phase of almost Buddhist simplicity...

...or something....

Learn to let go, it has served you well. Consign it to the recycle bin and see what 3M has to offer. Really, new systems are not expensive we use them at work in our impregnation shop.

You are absolutely right. The Racal system was stupendously expensive when we bought it, purely because it was quite rare at the time. Now, they cost a fraction of what we paid, in real terms.

I just wish I had big barn to house the stuff. I'm swamped by it all.

Any helmet that doesn't have the batteries and fan/filter at waist level is a nightmare to use. It's why hiking backpacks have a hip strap, rather than trying to balance a basket on your head.
They're just the face mask, blowing the air down over the face. Still the tube from the filter/battery pack on a waist belt to buy.

The contemporary equivalent of my positive pressure respirator, bought about fifteen years ago, now costs £900, and that's from Screwfix. 3M Versaflo Powered Air.

I'm thinking of lying in the bath and polishing my helmet with Colgate. Don't tell @Fnaar.
