I can't see why you have such a high spec set of wheels as a recreational rider but since you do, store and treasure them for the winter ! Not only does that keep in good shape, you can also blame the other wheels for slowing you down in the winter (it is normal to slow down a bit due to the weather conditions).
just cause i wanted them - in the same way recreational golfers, runners etc etc have high spec clubs, trainers etc

Spare wheels without spare tyres are about as much use as a chocolate fire guard. Get more tyres.
they are one the shopping list fossy - but winter gear was also needed which i didn't have - also the visa card started wobbling after buying the bike and wheels, so had to slow down on the expenditure some where along the line

Ventilation and/or heating is key! Good luck.

Trolling or just blissfully unaware of the increased wear and tear on components due to dirt, grime and road salt?

not trolling, just questioning, albeit slightly facetiosly, the value of bike parts (or anything else really) that's too precious and / or flimsy to be used in the wet.

by way of comparison, whilst I might not want to wear my smart Northampton-made brogues up a mountain in winter (though i have done) , a pair of shoes I couldn't wear in winter would be a bit of a chocolate teapot.

best just for racing, well maybe, but otherwise too precious to use, I don't really get.

So you don't own any sandals then?

Of course you can ride high-end carbon wheels in winter, many of my cross friends do just that and throw all sorts of abuse at their wheels. It's really only a question of accepting a reduced lifespan, same as with everything.

In a shed? I would take them to bed with me.
its not a standard garden shed banjo - its a concrete and stone shed with 5point lock door and remote alarm with magnetic contact points and interior sensors. its secure.
