I saw the 303 tubs at £1200 earlier in the year, so assumed the clinchers would be the same. Wow, you chose clinchers despite the price difference? Now I see why you can't afford the dedicated rubber

It's a valid choice to put your good bike away for the winter, however I just love riding mine so much, I ride it all year round. Just wash it a bit more, and as said, save best wheels for best.

its not about the affording VamP its just like i said i also play golf and new to the cycling game

and yeh i chose the clinchers for more ease of use, i don't race, i read for pleasure and i think its easier to just replace a tube on the clinchers if i get a flat than try and remove and refit a tub. when i ride i'm always at least 2hrs away from home and swmbo doesn't drive so no back up phone call can be made

like you i love riding my best bike and have got a pair of mudguards for it just awaiting their arrival - think thats made my mind up - put the handbuilts on the bestie for the winter and then re-shod the zipps ready for the spring. That why i get to train on the same bike i'll be using for the wiggle dragon ride in june and hopefully the etape cymru too

I think you missed my smiley

Seriously though, having their own rubber means you can decide right before a ride which wheels to go with. Unshod wheels are just clutter. Also means you can have two very different tyre types at your disposal - important for racing, but handy for recreational riding too.

yeh i think i'll put the velocities on for winter and if its been real bad i'll take out the defy - the velo's have only been ridden once and are 32hole for the shocking winter roads

decision done

ps now gotta sort out the damp problem in my shed

surely carbon wheels are more salt reistant than alloy, or am i missing something.

neither alloy nor carbon are water soluble

Carbon tends to have worse braking performance in the wet. Grit that gets on the rims and brake pads in the bad weather is an abrasive and accelerates rim wear. Dirt, grit and salt will get into and corrode the hub and spoke nipples (depending how good the hub seals are and the martials used) etc.

Trolling or just blissfully unaware of the increased wear and tear on components due to dirt, grime and road salt?

Well its not exaclty new; a new frame for the Kinesis; Ti time so hopefully it wont brake in under 3.5 years, on the positive it lasted 24,500miles and didn't fail on a ride

You DO do a lot of miles....

I can't see why you have such a high spec set of wheels as a recreational rider but since you do, store and treasure them for the winter ! Not only does that keep in good shape, you can also blame the other wheels for slowing you down in the winter (it is normal to slow down a bit due to the weather conditions).
