In what way did this make you happy / sad / poorer / richer / indignant / faster / slower ?
Perhaps those at the head of the organization could set an example to other cyclist.

As @Ian H says events like the York Rally are massively important and should be kept up with active participants across the cycling world. Everyone from around the world cyclists to the person doing the weekly shopping and anyone in between can benefit from promoting cycling in a way that doesn't 'complicate' it unnecessarily.
The York Rally is resurgant. I was there. June this year!
Perhaps in 10 years they will be holding an annual toast there:
"To IanH! For keeping the grudge going! Hoorah!"
The point is that the current independent York Rally organisation is succeeding where CTC failed.
I joined because they did insurance.
Exactly. Its the cheapest 3rd party liability/personal insurance I could find
Many with house insurance will actually have 3rd party liability when cycling included. I can't talk for every policy but if you have house insurance it's worth checking. My own policies have included a decent cover for years and most times this comes up some go check and "gosh, they have it anyway. Of course some wont have hous einsurance and maybe some policies are different or have constrainty but worth checking. As a regular cyclist, I would recommend you are a member of one or the other or source your own third party insurance that you can rely upon.
One way street, I assume.Perhaps those at the head of the organization could set an example to other cyclist.

It used to but I'm unsure now. They certainly offer it but for a small hike in premium and I may (or may not) have excluded that option over the ludicrous unjustified premium increases. Will your house insurance offer free legal advice as well? It served me well in helping me extract compensation from a minicab driver sometime in the 1980s.
Any rebranding needs to start with thinking through what Cycling UK is for, a mission statement if you like. It’s no longer a members club but does have local clubs that organise rides, it’s also a campaigning charity. I’m not sure these are very compatible which confuses the brand.
Very much this. Like many people I join to get the insurance, and it enables me to participate in Friday Night Rides. As a by-product I get the magazine that is generally rather dull, but I do skim through it just in case. It's not quite 100% guaranteed boring.
I'm also aware that they do campaigning and stuff so if I want to know the effect of such-and-such a law change, or if the government is seeking input for a proposal, then I probably come to see if Cycling UK have something to say on the subject. Sometimes they do.
But I don't have a clue what they do beyond this.
WTF do you want them to do? The magazine - which you and the other moaning old gits on here describe as "still boring" - is full of the stuff they do, mainly campaigning, law changes, funding people to get cycling, helping disabled riders, kids, boring sh1te like that. So apparently you're not interested in THAT stuff.
Should they come round and pump your tyres up for you? Or just wipe your arse? How well are other organisations wiping your arse - and do you feel they charge a fair fee?
