Ah, but the OP says you need to be a CTC member to log in  There is no CTC.

I think it needs renaming 'sandal wearing cycling club'.

They have over the years shed the York Rally, the Birthday Rides, Holidays and Tours, all the things that made it a club. Compare and contrast the FFCT over the Channel.
Also British Cycling have - to quote a previous director of the CTC - parked their tanks on the CTC's lawn.

Could you be clear - which of these two things are you moaning about?

It really could be so much more productive in the cycling as transport arena. It just seems all a bit too polite at times. They make up campaigns but they just seem to be letter writing and polls mainly. Just a bit 'Is it OK with you if we...' mentality I think. Definitely major push needed promoting cycles as actual real transport and not 'latest gravel' 'fastest that' malarkey in my humble opinion.

Do you actually read the magazine? Actually read the details of interactions they have with government and councils??

"latest gravel" you're in some weird fantasy world    They may have an article in the magazine about that (and it will be due to feedback from members, and studying actual sales in the real world) but that's not the same as what they're saying to the powers-that-be!!!

Meanwhile, the other moaners on the thread just want CUK to stick to running local rides with local groups - none of this "Campaigning malarkey". Could the moaners please get together and agree on what CUK are doing wrong?!? :P

I do indeed read the magazine @matticus I just think they should be more like the car lobbies in some ways. Maybe not enough money, people or clout. They are a charity so I don't imagine they have a money tree. They work hard no denying that.

I recently renewed my membership, but will probably let it lapse next time.
Reduced price for seniors is no longer offered - it's £52 pa for all adults - and 5 years for the cost of 4 has also been discontinued.
No longer worth it for me!

Well, I’m a member, but only because (originally) I needed to be to join FNRttC rides, though I haven’t been on one for years, it’s got a bit cliquey.

I stayed a member because of the insurance.

I don’t care how they rebrand it, it’s all meaningless.

I think it is important, in my opinion, to keep renewing every year to support the cause and by being out there cycling with luggage, without, shopping, pleasure, transport. If only one person thinks 'Mmm, I could cycle that distance' it's one less car trip.

As a regular cyclist, I would recommend you are a member of one or the other or source your own third party insurance that you can rely upon.

I say this as someone who was sued by another cyclist - I got knocked off my bike, but also took down another cyclist in my fall. The driver legged it. Six months later, other cyclist sues me. BC got involved and settled. Could have been massively expensive and I'm not so sure household insurance would offer the cover level and piece of mind.

You have been warned.

The shedding of events happened at meetings where I was present. They happened because the then director decided that every event had to be its own cost centre. Thus, for example, when the York Rally made a weather-related loss two years running, it was shelved. There was no thought that these things might have an overall benefit for the membership that outweighed the individual event costs (these were inflated when HQ staffing costs were added to local & national event expenses).
I was also at the meeting where the then director had to apologise to British Cycling bods for his tank comment.
