I think that rather depends on your definition of "English".

probably and crucially as close to English as DRC French is to France French.

The point being the DRC fact was hardly surprising given it has twice the population of France and French as its national language.

There are more portuguese speakers in brazil than portugal etc..

Arsenal is the only English football team that isn't named after a geographical location.

It was at one point named after the geographical location of Woolwich Arsenal, before dropping "Woolwich" to become "The Arsenal", and later dropping "The".

Before being "Woolwich Arsenal", they had started out as Dial Square (a square in the Royal Arsenal complex), then became Royal Arsenal, both of which were geographical locations.
