Why do rugby league kit designers have such a penchant for V designs on the front of jerseys?

Because it makes the players seem bigger to their opponents, the main wearers of a V stripe being St Helens identifies bigger cheats/dirty players

I did wonder if it was something like that. I don't know much about rugby league but I've been watching a bit of the current World Cup with my dad and noticed that lots of teams seem to have a V design on the jerseys, and I did know St Helens did too. Are St Helens dirty cheats?

I do remember getting talking to a bloke from up north who was down this way with work and was staying in a local pub, I remember asking him about a thing that had puzzled me for ages, which was does a team ever push in the scrum rather than the non-contested affair that usually happens? He told me that it does occasionally happen. I've never seen it though.

Anyway, the best, most iconic rugby jersey is cherry and white hoops, like the mighty Gloucester used to wear, and I believe Wigan did too.

Is there a by-law in Leeds that states that all taxis have to be Toyota Hybrids?

No, but the Toyota Prius tends to be the car of choice for Uber and other taxi firms where they have to work in a clean air zone. They are pretty ubiquitous in London as well.

Just walking around this morning, almost all the taxis were either Toyota Prius or Auris hybrids. The only other ones were a couple of Lexus CT200h's which are Toyotas by any other name which prompted my question.

They're thinking of buying toy otters to replace the current fleet of river taxis too

The Toyota and Lexus cars are very popular as private hire & hackney carriages, as being Japanese are viewed as being reliable, economical, and reasonably clean exhaust wise, it’s always been that way in Leeds and the surrounding towns, in the 80’s they were all Datsun 180B’s, then the Toyota Corolla, then it was Skoda’s & Toyota Avensis, the majority of drivers are of Pakistani or Bangladeshi heritage and they will not buy anything that’s unreliable, they are a pretty good indicator of cars that won’t let you down

Why are Southampton and Northampton 127 miles apart via road? Surely both 'amptons' should be close, if not next to each other.🤔

South Shields and North Shields are a mere 7.8 miles apart by road and much closer 'as the crow flies'.

I live in Great Harwood which is less than 5 miles from Little Harwood. Even much closer (about 3.25 miles) if you drive/cycle 'over the hill', off the main road.

For the same reason that East Grinstead and West Grinstead are no where near each other.

They are not related:-

Hamm = Home
Ton = Town

A Green Stede is just a green place.

So the southamption was just hamm ton. Then people started adding South, presumably as a direction to get to hamm ton. I imagine Northampton has a similar derivation.

They may also have been to distinguish between Hammton near london, hammton in the South and hammton in the North.
Then of course you have hamm stede - the green town.

Etc.
