Frank Zappa. What was that all about?

Enough for me to contemplate seeing his son Dweezil play at the Barbican in York.

Motley Crue,

Help me Mrs Medlicott, I don't know what to do. I've only got three bullets and there's four in Motley Crue.

UB40. Brummie white pseudo reggae, no thanks.

I like my reggae pseudo. The more pseudo the better.

ARGGGHHHH! Which reminds me...Bob Marley. What was that stuff about?

Purveyor of fine nonsense
The Jacko. To this day, I think Jacko's music is crap.

Prince. I never understood why people made such a fuss over him, I thought he was mediocre. Also, not my style of music at all!

Marillion. Absolute shittypoo.

Other than that, there's loads of 80's stuff I don't "get", I only really caught the very end of the 80's, I was too young for most of it to be into the pop culture of the time.

Bruce Springsteen. Wot's that all about, FFS?
Yes I used to feel like that until my wife and her friend dragged their husbands along to a live gig.

I enjoy the albums but don't rush out to buy them. OTOH I move heaven and earth to get tickets for a live show and regularly check the web for rumours of the next tour For me Springsteen is just the best live act I've seen.

ELP get much more stick than they deserve IMO.

No, not NEARLY enough. I really despised their self-indulgent tuneless 'look at what I can do' cobblers. My dislike of them grew even more when there was a documentary shown on BBC one time that I watched out of duty to see if it might make me change my mind. It did; I'd previously merely ignored them but this showed a reason to hate them for their aspirations of superiority. From a helicopter shot, we were shown three huge pantechnicons driving down a highway in the US. Each pantechnicon belonged to one of E L or P and was emblazoned on its roof with the name of the despicable group member who's equipment it contained. They assumed this would impress. It did, I was impressed by how wanky this made them look.

And 'Tales from Topographic Oceans'? Whoever that was by can stick it up their arses.

All the things which you describe above are as annoying to me to. The curse of ELP was that they were caught up in all that prog rock nonsense just at the time it was beginning to turn into US-style stadium rock. That was a shame because a lot of their music was very good indeed. If you've never heard the Trilogy album, it is definitely worth a listen.
