Nope, still agree to disagree!

So are you saying you want to drive at up to 50mph in urban areas? Is your name Clarkson by any chance?

How typical that the only choices for cycle safety measures are things that riders can do.

Yeah, the roads are dangerous because I don't wear bright clothing.

These 'advanced motorists' (carbonmonoxymoron) should look a bit closer to home.

Why on earth do we want to limit speed to 20mph?? Some people are quite capable of driving at 30 or 40 or 50mph and still observing cyclists and other roasd users around them.

Nowt to do with driver capability at all... the assumption that it is is moto-centric arrogance.

The relative speeds between two modalities is a decisive factor for many people in whether they will cycle. A lower difference is perceived as safer.

Its about all the other factors, children and elderly being able to cross the road, quieter strets, more equitable use of shared areas and all the other things that motoring organisations ignore in favour of the "I can drive safely at the speed I want, and that is all that matters" argument

Typical response. Because I don't agree that you can apply blanket limits to every urban road (whether that be 20, 30 or 40mph) the suggestion is I want to drive everywhere at 50mph. I'm very clearly not saying that.

I fundamentally believe two things - you cannot apply a blanket limit that works on every urban road and at every time of the day and I also believe you shouldn't dumb things down to the lowest common denominator. Neither of those suggests I want to drive at 50mph where it is inappropriate to do so.

I don't think restricting speeds in urban areas to 20mph is 'dumbing down' at all. I see it as 'smarting up'.
