I'm now single. My wife of twenty five years was eight and a half years younger than me. My partner of eight years before my wife was fourteen and a half years older then me. Both were completely different relationships, but looking back, sometimes through rose tinted glasses I'd say the older woman relationship was the better of the two. 🤔
My wife was 2 years younger than me and just 19 when we married.
We were happily married for 54 years till she passed away** last June.
**I never know whether to say passed away or died, strange one that.
I think the average used to be about 5 years, which is why UK state pensions had that bizarre 65/60 age difference; the theory was that couples could retire at about the same time. Utterly bonkers assumption.
Wife is just over 3 years younger (only by a week)
She was 17, & still in 6th Form, when we met
(via Jane, a mutual friend, who was waiting for her own chap, & 'the present Mrs T' was with her, when l stopped to talk to Jane)
Some people try to call me a DOM, but I would point out that:
a) Bunny spoke to me first.
b) It’s none of their business, (and in some cases, they’re just jealous. )
24 days short of 3 years.
50th anniversary is hurtling down the track at me.
The matter of celebration is an area of difference between us.
She would like a bit of a do. If I'm going to spend big money I'd rather get the garden and terrace sorted. Think it might be better value.
Because it would be cheaper and easier I, foolishly, suggested we send a bottle of champagne to 50 of our friends and invite them to drink our health.
Did not go well.
Could combine it with a Zoom afternoon, evening thing. Have lots of rooms, people can wander through, catch up with people they haven't seen since our wedding. Ignore those who are on their ignore list
A special room for those who have to discuss their last visit to the doctor, medication etc.
Not good!
Where did I go wrong? Baring a night in 1974 when I proposed.
