Being a lanky plank, many municipal seating installations feel a little on the low side for me, however this example in Ulverston is perfect.

...especially on the high side. I spent a good thirty minutes enjoying it whilst having a bite to eat before embarking on the Bay Cycle Way.

Whilst i was sat there, the Google car drove past, but there's still no sign of me on street view.
I am sat on that very bench at the moment, waiting for Hover fly to return with the fish and chips.

Boston stopped antisocial drinking on a lot of benches by removing them, the benches that is.
To be fair, if you were stuck in Boston you'd turn to drink.

Faversham, a very nice town indeed, appears to have a terrible lack of benches. After getting some wonderful fish and chips from a great place in the town had to do a longish tramp to a church for somewhere to sit with them.
If I had my way any village/hamlet without a bench should have its village sign burned and be obliterated from maps and history.

A replica of the famous “squirrel seat” of the Furness Railway. First made in a foundry in Carlisle circa 1904.
The replicas were presented by Glaxochem to commemorate 50 years in Ulverston. Two of the original seats are still in Ulverston Station.

Bench above Earby (there's a lot more above - I'd descended a hell of a lot to this point after a pretty stiff climb some folks on here doubtless know)

From a certain northern park.

Was always rather fascinated by these as a kid (being shorter and more intimate with snakes) and appreciated their wit and also cleverness for of course in theory they should last forever with just the wooden bits need replacing.

Seems the vandals have been at them though for on revisiting most seem to have disappeared from the main drag, just these two in a corner.

Thanks to vandals - two pics needed.

Don't know what period they are, how common they were.
