I find that - assuming I take the tablets - I don;t suffer much when riding
even when riding through the countryside which must be chock full of pollen and stuff

but when I get home and stop - then shortly after my eyes start itching and stinging like mad

On my wife's advise I srated rinsing my face and eys very thoroughly with warm water when this happens

which works for me

the theory is that the pollen gathers around the eyes etc - but the amount is so great that the body's systems are totally overwhelmed and shoot down
Hence not causing the problems
Then you get home and the onslaught stops so the over reactions start off on full throttle

not sure this has any more evidence behind it that broccoli - sorry organic broccoli - but it works for me which os good enough for me

my wife does have an annpying habit of coming up with weird old wives tales
which turn out to work even through the "science" behind it is dodgy

another example is butter on burns

Nah, it's something at home that's setting you off.

I'm allergic to our home. Just don't know what it is

My wife???

actually it happens anywhere - a while after I stop so a stop for a can isn;t quite long enough although if I stop for a coffee at a cafe then I can feel it starting after I set off again
and, of course, a stop on the ride is often still out in the pollen

dunno - might make sense - as I said I have learned not to dismiss my wife's "old wives' tales"

I assumed the body reprioritised the pollen war toward providing oxygen where it's needed. Rising CO2 levels in the blood definitely cause a response. If you have a blocked nose just try holding your breath until its uncomfortable and your nose will start to unblock.

I can go from completely blocked nose to clear with a little exercise, but it goes back to blocked afterwards.

Interesting that the same, spambot thread on mumsnet generated no replies. Guess they are spinning more real life plates than us!
Well, we can safely say that the CC members that post regularly have passed the age of needing to run after toddlers or change nappies
Mums have a lot less disposable time than cyclists ^_^

I go from a blocked nose to a clear one shortly after going to bed to sleep. I then get up in the morning and very quickly I get a blocked nose. It is uncanny how we seem to be opposites!!

What do you mean? I have a growing family of bicycles to maintain and fettle.

I wonder if you now spend more time with your mechanical children than you did with your human children (if you had some). There is something about mums doing most of the childcare in the past and probably still now, but I reckon it is getting better on that front.
