Less 'pulled over' than 'totally burned off by that throbbing performance machine', I'd say. Big zorst and a Ferodo sticker. Plenty bhp added there, deffo. Innit.

Interesting collection of old, really old, and "can't be that old" cars.

But in retrospect, some of those "is that just parked there or is it part of the event?" cars are probably much older than many of the cars my Dad used to drag us around when we were younger. Great to see so many run-of-the-mill cars kept looking as good as they day they ran off the production line (70s and 80s UK cars - probably much better than that).

The Corsair had a restrained elegance that Ford never attained otherwise. None of those boy-racer or rep's car vibes.

Even as a teenager in the 70s, the Corsair never seemed to me a common car to see.
It'd be interesting to see how many were built compared to its competitors...or were they in reality not such a great car and quickly fell by the wayside.
I remember years ago seeing one annually en route to Weymouth, sat in someone's drive.
Year by year, it just rotted away, no doubt someone's unfulfilled dream that never got started.

My Uncle had one back in the early 70's, 2 litre V4 (transit*) engine so quite quick.

The area behind the headlamps was a bit of a 'rust-trap' though

* Same engine was fitted to the Mk1 Capri 2 litre

My grandad had 2 of them, really nice cars, much more rare then the Cortina Rep Mobiles, iirc the V4 had a very recognisable engine sound, back in the day you could tell when a Transit or Corsair was going past

Yep a 60 degree V4 has a very distinctive engine note similar to the V4 Ford Taunus engine used in the SAAB 96 although this German engine was only a 1500cc compared to the Ford 'Essex' which was 1700 or 2000

Talking of a very distinctive engine noise, I'll never forget the look of incredulous disbelief on my sons face when we firstly heard, then saw one of these trundle past in a cloud of blue 2 stroke fumes in a campsite in Potsdam

SAAB used a very similar DKW derived engine in their early cars, here's one in a Sonnet

We used to service a 96 Monte Carlo sport 3 cyl when I worked at a SAAB dealers, they sound unreal when being revved. Quite a few clips on youtube.
EDIT here's a Sonnet with the same engine.
