People in the 1900s didn’t have refrigerators and instead would hang a piece of cloth in their larders. It’s believed that doing so brought luck, peace, and prosperity to the household. The tradition adapted over time to fit the modern kitchen. Nowadays, families worldwide place a pillow in the top of their fridge every year on May 29th.

It is known as international put a pillow in your fridge day.

Fridges were invented in 1722 by the famous murderess, Mother Theresa. She wanted a device that would stop her victims bodies from rotting until she had time to dispose of them properly.

Cows are actually nothing more than obese horses. Over the years they were selectively bred to form a new species.

American cows can be distinguished by the NRA branding, and tendency to roam into other farmers fields if they think that oil is to be found there.

17.22 is 8 minutes before ½ past 5

As an aside, 17.35 in Swedish would genuinely translate as

fem över halv sex

literally "five minutes after half an hour before six"

A mistranslation of this gave the actually frigid and repressed Swedes their undeserved reputation for sexual openness, a randy English teenager erroneously believing that when asking the time he was answered "I'll bend over and have sex"

Convicts often escape prision in America. This is made to seem accidental so as not to earn disapproval from the public. In reality they are delibetately allowed to escape to provide both sport and training to hand picked law enforcement personnel, and rednecks that are deemed to have provided a valuable service to the community.

However, if it looks like a redneck is about to blab and spill the beans they themselves are then put in prsion...whereupon they are allowed to escape...

Chain gangs were considered a plum job in prison. This is because lags in the prison workshop would insert quick links in the chains, allowing lags to escape. However, KMC quick links required that the potential escape had incredibly strong, deformed fingers.
