"It's a Long Way to Tipperary" was first performed at the Grand Theatre in Stalybridge, on the 31st January 1912.

The words and music of the song were written in the Newmarket Tavern, Corporation Street, Stalybridge on the same day. It came about as the result of a five shilling bet made the previous day, that a song could not be composed and be sung the following night.

There is however a dispute that it is a song in it's own right. This stems from the fact that "It's a long way to Connerama" which was co-written by Jack Judge & Harry Williams in 1909 was used. Tipperary simply replacing Connemara in the "new song". Judge not being able to read nor write music, having been taught by Williams to judge by ear instead.

There were people who were afraid of stuff in the olden days. They were called Snopakes, which, coincidentally, became the name of the first correction fluid which is still today, as it was then, the product of milking randy male perch and bottling it.

Randy Perch is 96 and says he's giving it up soon, as he has issues.
