Plus they have 11 America and Wasp class amphibious carriers, intended for a role more akin to our Queen Elizabeth class. They are designed for amphibious operqtions , but also a reasonable smattering of helos and STOVL fighters are carried. At 45,000 tons they're minnows compared to their nuclear carriers, but they're still larger than most nations carriers and pack a serious punch. In addition, they're conventionally powered, so don't need years out at a time for overhaul and refuelling of the nuclear bit. So, including the mighty nuclear carriers they actually have 22 seriously powerful power projection carriers on the books.

In fact, behind closed doors Reagan had told Mrs Thatcher that if we lost a carrier in the Falklands we could borrow a Wasp carrier off them. They're pretty much twice the size of Hermes and Lusty, so had that situation arisen it could have raised the game considerably in our favour.

In the average adult it’s estimated that about 20,000 litres of air pass through the nose every day!
I pass that much through my backside every hour.
A fact......according to Mrs Dave.

And Maggie being Maggie, said that if she felt it was needed, she would have asked.

But it was a carrier sans crew. It would have taken months to man her and get everyone trained on unfamiliar systems and equipment. The real help the US gave us was shifting a satellite for surveillance, providing fuel for the Vulcan raids and covering our NATO commitments whilst we went south.

The brain operates on the same amount of power as 10-watt light bulb, even while you are sleeping. In fact, the brain is much more active at night than during the day.

Not a criticism, question.
What's it doing?

(Not thinking about some of the past threads on here i hope)

Sleep is definitely therapeutic i think, beyond the physical.

The US had a plan to provide a sailing crew, mainly from newly retired veterans and contractors. It would have been uo to the UK to provide combat staff.

Interesting, the contractors bit. They would still have run the risk of being shot at.
