New Year's Eve/Hogmanay plans for tonight

I'm full of lurgy but I'm going to drive 5 miles and see the new year in with some friends, drive home and see if I can sleep with this bloody cough!
All friends have recently had colds, so they're ok with me joining them! I'm making the effort as I spent NYE alone last year too.
🤧

And no. Doubt leave a bit of lurgy to make the new year especially nice for your friends! Don't worry I used to do that at work before Xmas. Get a bad cold a few weeks before the close of business, go into work, get over the cold in the last week before Xmas.. then come into work on the new year to hear stories of how colleagues had a terrible Xmas in bed!

Get better soon

If I see a skip outside a house when I'm out and about, I nearly always have a quick look for any interesting bikes that are being dumped.

It amazes me how often there will be an exercise bike or some other piece of fitness equipment sitting on top.

A work colleague was telling me recently that his wife and himself had taken out six months gym membership each in July and were unsure whether to renew it as she had been twice and he hadn't went at all!

My grandfather always said the road to Hell was paved with good intentions! Sadly true for many, myself included. My fitness is pretty good but I consume too many calories.

My old gym used to be terrible in January in the first two weeks. You'd see the numbers go down rapidly in the first two weeks leaving maybe q handful of newbies to last into February. Even less lasting 6 months.

Tbh a lot of regulars dipped In January because of it.

I'd see lots of home gym equipment dumped in folks gardens in my window cleaning round days. One garden even had one of those all in one gym machines that cost around £1000 when new! Such a shame as you could tell it was fairly new, but the chrome bits had started to rust. I'd see static bikes that were so rusted, I'd sit on them and try to turn the pedals, but they wouldn't move due to the rust.

I've found a big band jazz concert to listen to on the radio.:becool: I believe it's a live broadcast.

When younger I'd think "Not again"! on hearing my long gone dad's big band cassette tapes, but since I've partially metamorphosed into him, as I slowly approach the age he died at, I listen to the same big band music on CD's in my car I used to roll my eyes at!:okay:

I'll be making my way through what's left in the box of Williams Bros beer that arrived before Christmas, and keeping the dog calm when all the noise starts later on.

When did fireworks first become popular at new year, is it another creeping Americanism as I don't remember them when I was a kid?

Millennium eve 25 years ago was the first time I heard and saw fireworks on new year's eve. Mind you, it was a simple display of fireworks left over from bonfire night, outside a pub. Not these high explosive thingies they have these days!

Just remembered. The police turned up in a car and told the landlord to stop letting them off as it was a quote.....public nuisance. Imagine them turning up to the oh so many and far, far bigger 'public nuisances' these days!

I’ve just had a very nice evening with some friends, the kids, and good food. We’ve set off some fireworks with the neighbours. Now it’s off to bed. Happy new year everyone 🥳🙂

Am I right in thinking Irish whiskey tastes like a cross between Scottish whisky and American bourbon? 🤔 :okay:

I have very little experience of bourbon so not sure. Plain Bushmills like this isn't my first choice but I bought it because it was on special offer with these nice glasses that I fancied. Black Bush is slightly more expensive than the normal Bushmills and worth the extra imo.

As said, they were quite happy!
Some of us aren't mean spirited like others would claim to be.
