New Year's Eve/Hogmanay plans for tonight

I am going out to a Latin/Ballroom and sequence dance ,dance. Me and the missus are Latin Ballroom dancers but we have learnt a couple of sequence dances especially for the evening. My sparkly jacket and bow tie gets it annual outing.
Its bring your own drinks and nibbles in a Christian Hall so dirt cheap. My missus does not drink at all so she is designated driver.
The DJ is going to play a few pure pop records as well, I was asked for one so I suggested Madness, Night Boat to Cairo. My missus suggested Bee Gees Staying Alive , that should be amusing to watch.

This year, doing nothing at all.

It's been a nightmare of a year, personally, and I just want a quiet start to 2025. It's been a quiet festive season in fact and its been great. Just what I needed.

Sending Hover Fly off first-footing (a kind of trick or treat for tall dark men, I believe) then waiting in a nice warm bed with a couple of purring hot water bottles for him to come back.

About to go for a bracing walk. When I return, the door will be locked and that is me indoors, on my own, until 2025.
I will crack open the rum later on and have a few in memory of absent friends, and those I have lost this year, including the first of my cousins (of which there are 15, so probably quite lucky we all got this far).
Maybe see what the BBC has on offer for bringing in the NY, since the new presenter is the very lovely Amy Irons.
I will be crashed out shortly after midnight.

If it was up to me i would go to bed an ignore it as its just another day but the family like to stay up then there will be the fireworks being let off all night scaring the moggie followed by the drunkards walking past .

Ear plugs in and an early night. I don't know what it is with Leicester, but they like setting fireworks off for anything, had them going off Christmas Day and I think Saturday. When I get into power they will be banned.

We were contemplating going to a new year bash to support our local theatre, but the daughters weren't that keen so I think we will be doing the usual.
Children and wife- in bed by 11pm.

Well, I've learned a new thing!

“First footing”, or the tradition of the “first foot” in the house after midnight strikes on New Year’s Eve, is still common across Scotland. To ensure good luck for the house, the first foot should be a dark-haired male. He should bring with him symbolic pieces of coal, shortbread, salt, black bun, and a wee dram of whisky. The dark-haired male bit is believed to be a throwback to the Viking days, when a big blonde stranger arriving on your doorstep with a big axe meant big trouble, likely not to lead to a very happy New Year!
