hello, well its me and a mate that are definatly going, there is another lad who has done it before who might come along aswell. i think the normal time scale is 960 miles 10 days ish, the proberlem i have is the lad im going with has a brother who did it last year in 7 days, so our aim will be to beat that if i can get fit enough got 7 months from now tho. we are thinking a support car may come in handy so we can travel light maybe his mrs and mine. we will stop in bb so i dont have to put a tent up when im feeling crap and in need of food/bed. at the min we are in the early stages of planning got the 2 weeks off in august the idea being picking the best weather in that time scale to go.

Hi everyone, I'm a complete novice 47 year old cyclist from Paisley. Have just taken up the sport in attempt to lose a load of weight and try and live a bit healthier. Never had a bike before so struggling a little bit.

:welcome: from Glasgow! Don't worry, you will loose weight if you start cycling, but be careful at the beginning: I used to be REALLY scared of my commute, now, 4 months into it, I'm only a little bit apprehensive :excl:. Lost a lot of weight, though, so it was worth the initial stress and sore bits. Still haven't mastered all my gears ...

Cheers Pat. Had a couple of "incidents" on the road so I'm practicing going round the park for the moment until I work up to a bit of confidence.

Great idea! Early morning runs at the weekend are also good for building up confidence, as it's very quiet on the roads.

Hi all I'm new here too but been commuting for years. Joined CTC but not really a leisure rider so not always that interested in what's there. Great advice and loads of like minded cyclists and all ranges of experience and bikes too. Will spend loads of time here I believe. Gez

HI there just joined.

Have been cycling well forever but since I was 15 went from a road bike to mountain bike.

Just got a road bike (Orbea TSR Aqua) as a friend has persuaded me to join his firm on a 320 mile London to Paris trip in september.

First ride on the new bike today and pretty happy, 29 miles in 1 3/4 hours. Nothing stunning but a good first time!
