New to cycling. Did the London to Brighton on my dads old bike, so now looking for a new bike. Thinking of a trek 7.5 fx

Hello and Welcome to the CC forums.

The Trek is a nice bike. Why not post your question on the "Cafe" as it will get more views/answers?

Freshers first post ! Riding across France

Hello all,

This is my first post and carry's a large question... Myself and a group of friends are cycling from Barcelona to Genoa across France in september and wondered if anyone has knowledge of a route or routes we could use or link together and make an enjoyable trip of it.

I stumbled onto Cycle Chat whilst looking for info on Chinese titanium frames and have managed to wander off in all sorts of directions...

Who knows where I will end up

Windcheeta

Hi folks, Just starting back cycling (just a short 30 year break) Bought a Claud Butler Urban 100 around 3 months ago (basic I know) but have thoroughly enjoyed riding to work, training and bimbling around at weekends. I am now looking for a road bike in the £400-£600 range the Giant defy seem to be my favourite at the present. Anybody any comments or better ideas??? any help welcome I'm form the East Lancs area.

Welcome, Rovers.

Giant Defy are good but you already knew that. If you want alternatives, then the Specialized Allez is a good match for the Defy or the Specialized Secteur for a (very slightly) more relaxed and day-long comfortable option. Great position to be in.

Bonjour!!

25 yr old girlie, just moved to hertfordshire to a lovely house which means I can have a bike!! (no storage at previous addresses Booo!)

Just learning about the different options as I was always brought up on Raleigh MTBa. Got my eye on some rather lush looking Dutch style bikes as it is mainly for commute to the station and out and about as I don't have full-time access to a car (bf's car is company car so he gets priority during 'business hours' <--- I mean how unfair?!!) However, feeling totally overwhelmed so thought I would join here to absorb some knowledge, want to make sure its an informed choice because bikes are much more expensive than I remember!!

Greetings, Amy

Great position to be in but **note, pessimism warning** don't go too lush if you are going to leave it at the station. It'd be a bugger to lose a decent ride to a station thief.

Once again "Uncle Norm" has given good advice regards leaving an expensive bike at the station. Perhaps a "Decathalon" or "Edinburgh Bike Coop" cheapy - or secondhand bike would be a better option.
You could alway's get your Dutch style bike for evening and weekends only.

If you post your budget and requirements from the bike on the "Cafe" you should get a better response.

Oh! Welcome to the forums, by the way.

lost in Paris

Hello, I'm Dianne, I'm in Paris until early December, for an adventure. Couldn't bring my Dawes - in storage - so am looking for a cheap city bike for the duration. Any recommendations, please?

Also, I would like to learn of any sociable cycling occasions.

Hi there,

Andy here. Just ordered a new bike on the cycle to work scheme after not cycling for 14 years or so (Im 32 now). Plan on commuting into work (8 miles each way) with a view to getting fit and losing some weight.

Tried it the other day on an old mountain bike and felt OK. Really excited to get started now with my new bike!

Andy
