Hello, I'm Dianne, I'm in Paris until early December, for an adventure. Couldn't bring my Dawes - in storage - so am looking for a cheap city bike for the duration. Any recommendations, please?

Also, I would like to learn of any sociable cycling occasions.

Hello Dianne and Welcome to the CC forums.

I've never been in one but I believe mainland Europe(and some parts of the UK) has a chain of shops called "Decathlon" that sell a great range of "own brand" value for money bikes. There is one in Paris - the company started in France.

Maybe if you post this on Beginners or the "Cafe" you'll recieve a better response.

Good luck with the adventure.

Hi there,

Andy here. Just ordered a new bike on the cycle to work scheme after not cycling for 14 years or so (Im 32 now). Plan on commuting into work (8 miles each way) with a view to getting fit and losing some weight.

Tried it the other day on an old mountain bike and felt OK. Really excited to get started now with my new bike!

Andy

Hello and Welcome to the CC forums.

Good luck with the cycling, what type of bike have you ordered? -

Hi Bauldbairn,

I've ordered a Specialized Sirrus Elite with helmet, lock, lights, rack and bag + panniers.

Just waiting for my cyclescheme voucher to drop through the door now!! :-)

There's a Decathlon in Stockport, I'm sure there will be others in the UK as well.

Nice choice - very popular on here.

IanRauk, Norm and Potsy are CC "Specialized" experts - I believe they have an Owners Club(OC) for "Secteur's" not sure about Sirrus's. Drop them a line or look at their profiles.

Remember rushandy, once you get your bike we like to see photos with a review(not essential though). -

I think she meant for the time she was in France????

Ooops sorry. I was in France last year and there were lots of Decathlon big sports / outdoor shops, they sold everything. It is a French owned brand I think.

I will definitely take some photos and put them on here when I get the bike.

We'll look forward to seeing them - put them in the "Cafe" or the "Photo Gallery" section as more people view those threads.

Hi all

New to the forum and just saying 'HI!!'
Bought my first 'serious' cycle, 2nd hand CB Urban 400, to commute and for general cycle rides.
Little about me:
From Durham (Ch-le-St) and now live in Newcastle(Heaton).

Hmm...that's about it!

Hello Witherspoon and Welcome to the CC forums.

Don't know if there are many Sunderland fans on here - but we won't hold that against you. - ;)

Durham's a nice area I've been down there a few times to work.

Good luck with the cycling.
