Hello and reasons for being here

Hello,
I'm a terrible cyclist but want to buy a bike just for short trips. I'm looking for a cheap second hand bike but don't want to go to Brick Lane for obvious reasons. I'm here to see if someone on CycleChat is selling such a bike. Thanks Mark!

Howdo Presmark. I'd recommend a quick spin through the classifieds forum, and then jump ship as quick as you can before we suck you in. Plenty here start off like you, and end up with different bikes for dry commutes, wet commutes, sundays, bling, utility, speed work, pootling, overnights, tours, socials, etc.....

Hi, I'm another newbie!
Have had quite a gap from cycling and just come back to it as a commuter, commuting around Northumbria!
Also just decided to build a bike from scratch on a whim, having not done so for about 7 years... jumping straight back into it!

cheers, Paddles

I keep have fixie-envy! Not sure if my legs could cope with fixed gear up Camden Road though...that hill goes on forever!

Going up isn't a problem, keeping up with the pedal speed on the way down might be

Hi All
Newbie to this site, just got back into cycling after a big break - finally bit the bullet after years of the London Underground. Cheers, Downhills

Hello

Riding for 4 years, before that running for 25 - ran for GB at the Marathon (PB 2:12) - wished I'd discovered bikes before. Never hit the wall running - longest run 35 miles but been well & truly battered after 4 hours on a bike - couldn't turn the cranks. Got a Specialized E5 columbus with Campy mixed (Chorus/Veloce) (39/53 & 13/26) and a Claud Butler on my Turbo (Minoura VSG). Best ever gadget - Garmin Edge 305. I collect .crs files especially around hills in north and mid Wales. Favourite rides around Lake Vyrnwy - looking at getting a compact.

Work for Eddie Stobart at Middlewich and do a 30 miler up Mow Cop after work. Never compted on a bike but done chain gang 25 with Warrington RC which is comfortable but get battered on the sprint.

Hate the wind - especailly in April. Never got injured running (apart from short term achilles & calf issues) but broke my collar bone twice in 4 years on the bike.

Wife HATES cycling. That's why I haven't got a lovely red/white carbon Colnago.

Hello to one and all. Considering it is Earth Day today I would like to congratulate every cyclist for doing their bit to reduce carbon emmisions, methane may be another issue!

I returned to cycling after 38 years of driving a car, I got rid of my car in Feb 2009 and do not miss it. I am a 'roady' and picked up my bike from Portland recycle dump, a late 1960s early 1970s French bike sold under the name of Viceroy. I haven't managed to find any history about it so if there is anyone who has information about this mark I would be happy to hear about it.

hi

hello everyone

i've been using a mtb for years but seem to do a lot of miles on the road now so i'm after a road bike now and would like some info on the pro's and con's of full carbon vs alu/carbon so i'll be doing a lot of reading up on this site

Hi Cycle Chatters! I'm in Australia, but have been looking at your excellent Forum for a little while now. It consistently comes up in searches and the content is informative and friendly. For those of us who take our cycling seriously for fun and fitness, but are basically amateurs with goals that reconcile poorly with our middle-aged bodies, this seems a very good site. I make no assesment of other members, I'm just referring to myself here!) Congratulations on your forum.
