Hello everyone.

My name is Paul and after checking out a couple of forums I decided this would be the one I would register for.

I used to cycle a lot in my teens and really got into timing myself on short sprints locally, then I started to go on solo runs, up to 40 miles at a time and loved every pedal of it. I was lean, and fit back then.

One thing led to another and kids came, so did some weight, then some more weight, and now I am where I am... looking to get back into cycling and have many questions (there was no such thing as the internet when I first started cycling let alone forums).

Currently I own a Raleigh manta ray MTB which I picked up cheapish locally, i have adjusted the brakes and a few other bits myself and this will do me initially until I ultimately get a road bike which I 'think' is where my passion will lie.

Hi everyone

Not cycled since I was a teenager. Interested for health and hobby reasons. A family means I'm on a bit of a budget. Currently have an Apollo MTB I picked up for £30. Currently cleaning it and learning how to strip it down and maintain.

Humble beginnings and all that. All advice and tips welcome.

Hello all!

Like the last poster, I'm an Emily too! I'm an early 20s newbie-ish living in Stockport, relocated from the Rose of the Shires (Northamptonshire) just over a year ago to take a job here. I used to cycle a lot back 'home' because everywhere was nearby, the roads were good - wide, safe - for those further-away treks, I was surrounded by beautiful countryside and rural towns ...

When I moved here it was necessary for me to get a driving license and a car so I could visit my friends and family down yonder when I missed them too much, and naturally, I have started to drive everywhere ... it's so bad for my state of mind, though, I miss the secret little streams and woodlands I'd find on my adventures in the past. The roads around here are scarier and I'm still trying to map out friendlier cycle commutes.

I'm training to cycle the Prudential 100 for Support Adoption For Pets - am I allowed to do some plugging for fundraising on these forums? - and my next task is to sell my current bike and buy a new one, one that's better adapted to an endurance cycle ... : ) not to mention my current one doesn't fit on my bike rack (the rack was donated to me) so I can't take it anywhere unless I pedal it there!

I'd be very happy to hear from other Stockportians who fancy showing me around a bit and keeping me company during my training and hopefully I'll be able to return the favour. I'd be happy to hear from anybody who admires those cyclists who spend their whole weekends pedalling and wants to join the ranks !

Love,

Emily

Hey Guys & Gals.
Not been on a bike for a few years properly.
Took a spin recently and was bitten.
I'm on the lookout for a road bike to go with my MTB.
Looking forward to getting fit again and loosing some weight.
Anyways... hi.

Hi
Recently went for it and bought a traditional "sit up and beg" bike. After years of not particularly liking cycling, this bike has made a wonderful difference. I am enjoying it so much more and its comfortable!!!!!!!!. No sore wrists, bottom or back. And I have also sorted my headache problem thanks to advice from here. Yesterday cycled part of the Hayling Billy trail, beautiful day.
