Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
I may keep that as my training regime from now on. Then if anyone askz me why I am pushing my bike instead of riding it I can tell the truth. All part of, the training.

Hello from sunny Devon

I bought myself a Giant Roam 4, determined to get back to cycling after half a century. I'm disabled by the way, and I'm 66. I started gently, just round local bike paths, then thought bugger it, and did a twelve mile ride on the cycle path from Exeter to Dawlish with my friend. Lovely track, nice scenery, nice places to get off and mooch around. I survived. Amazingly un
scathed.

Hello, I'm new round here. Am usually to be found pootling around the Peak District. Using tapatalk so my posts will be characterised by brevity and spelling mistakes.

Oh yeah, and anyone who quotes those bloody rules at me will be given short shrift. They're not big, not clever and most importantly not even funny.

Hi. First post.
My name is Bill and I live in Wallsend near Newcastle . I am venturing into more frequent cycling as I have worn out my body over the last 50 odd years doing high impact sports such as rugby and karate. Its going to be my main means of cardio from now on.
I am currently using an old Claude Butler Ravana which has had plenty of miles put on it over the years (coast to coast, work commute etc). I am looking to buy something newer and Im after a bit of advice. Im looking at a hybrid as I think it will suit my needs. I will be using it to commute @ 10 miles to work couple times week and also for recreational use on roads/cycle paths/ mineral lines and the like. Is a hybrid my best option ( those wheels look rather flimsy) . I have my eye on a boardman hybrid or a specialized sirrus but any suggestions on options would be welcome.
Thanks in advance

Welcome to all of you from sunny ha west Wales. Lots of people will give you advise along the way here. Just started cycling myself after 45 years. I went out this morning and nearly ended up going arse over tip over a bridge into the river dovey.

At least I got that over and done with and I came out of it relatively unscathed, just scratched elbow knuckles and twisted wrist. Serves me right I think. Won't say anything to he who must be obeyed or he'll start giving me that look again, the one that says he thinks i am stark staring bonkers. For taking up cycling at my age and in this area ie more hills and inclinesI than you can shake a stick at. And don't be afraid to ask questions. There are lots of people here who can help you and they won't think your questions are stupid so ask away.

Hi guys, I'm Matt. Another newbie to add to the community. Living on the Wirral (opposite Liverpool). Looking forward to speaking with you all and learning new things. Only been riding for the last 6 weeks on a full suspension MTB, currently in the market for a hybrid for the commute (I wont start a new thread about it, I have already been looking through them)

Morning to you all and :welcome:

No question too daft on here just get out there and get posting.

If you are new to cycling have a look at and post on "Show us your newbie progress" .Everybody is really friendly and supportive.

Post some pictures of your ride as they always go down well and if you fancy some light relief pop into the cafe, always good for a chuckle.

Most of all enjoy your rides, don't just commute, commune with what's around you

Hello,

So you've signed-up, got your user account, now all you need to do is get posting .... ah, um, er, What do I say?

Well, it's dead easy - just say Hello and tell us a little bit about yourself and whereabouts you're from (so we can invite you along to rides!!)

Believe me, once you get that first post under your belt you'll be off!

My name's Shaun by the way, and I own and operate CycleChat.

If you need any help or advice on using the forums, or want to ask a question but don't want to do it publicly - just send me a PM (private message).

Hope you enjoy, and welcome to CycleChat

Cheers,
Shaun

hi, I am having a moment of madness in that I am joining a forum that seems full of energetic and knowledgeable people where I could be exposed as an old fraud who occasionally climbs in the saddle and pedals like fury for five minutes and then needs three days, at least, to recover!! I bought a bike many moons ago, Elswick Stag, and after many years of on and off occasional riding thought I would like to get a different bike. Well, I purchased a second hand one from a dealer which seemed a good buy and I have no regrets except it was an import with the brakes the other way round, bit of a tester that for the first few rides!! What I would appreciate is any information regarding the frame. It is a bio racer "personal" with Durace cranks, brakes and gearing. It had a Regal Girardi saddle. With that level of accessories I assume the frame is "good" - the only labels being SYTU 878 Mannismann tubing on the forks and frame. Don't get much help from the web. Any information would be appreciated. Cheers
Keith
