Many thanks. My problem stems from years of delivering furniture jumping of the back of a 7 1/2 tonner with sofas etc. my back is really bad ( chronic degradation ) so I can't harm that any more but it really does hurt sometimes ( ESP as I have had a 6 week break from the gym). My knees though they can't find a thing wrong yet somedays I can't even get up a flight of stairs. I restrict my milage on the bike to how I feel on the day it seems to be the best compromise.

Gammy backs are no fun on a bicycle. Imagine your knees as a simple hinge and try and protect them from too much strain.
I can thoroughly recommend a recumbent trike for gammy backs, shoulders (as in my case) or wrists and hands......

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Better now. Today I went on my first ride in 45 years. Thought I was going to die. Only went about 2 miles, and I seemed to spend ad much time walking as riding. Haha.

Ha!! That's part of the journey Hun ... besides there's nothing in any bike manuals that states U HAVE to stay on the bike!^_^ just concentrate on enjoying the ride. was it dry or raining?
