Hi everybody,
First of all- Great forum, very interesting and engaging!
My name is George and I live in London, Camden Town.
I'm a mature student( law) and in the meantime working in catering trade...
Over the last couple of weeks I have made a concious decision to take up cycling, as it:
a) promotes health, substitutes gym, etc, ( secretly, I need to lose 20kg, kinda overweight )
b) will save me some money on the commuting costs.
Having read numerous posts, I'm not so sure over the money saving thing, but still....
I have not bought a bike yet,but soon may get one via freecycle, or elsewhere.
It appears that this is a very friendly, warm community which I am eager to join and to be part of.
That's about it.

Just close your eyes as you walk past bike shop windows (and avoid the bike porn threads here on CC) and you should be okay ... but only for so long ... they'll get you eventually ...

Welcome to the wonderful world of cycling and to our little corner of the cycling world.

Cheers,
Shaun

Hi, I'm Gaz from Manchester (living in Irlam).

Just got back into biking after a year off and bought myself a very pretty Giant Defy 2, from a shop in Urmston (Eddie McGraths) I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone (newbie or otherwise).

My bike and LBS choice were made based in recommendations from helpful folk on here and I can't thank them enough for their advice.

Must dash, this bike won't ride itself!!!

Another new member here
I'm Chris, from Sunny Berkshire (Newbury area).
After many years of MTB (My current bike is a Specialized Hardrock Sport) use has changed and I'm finding myself more on road than off!
I'm on the cusp of buying my first ever road bike.
So thought it a good time to join the forums and have a read.

Chris

Hello all,
I'm a 50 something fat bloke who joined the cycle to work scheme a year ago and never got the bike out of the garage until June this year. Now I've got the bug again. I live in Newcastle-under-Lyme and cycle 11 miles each way two or three days a week.

Part of my journey is down the notorious "D" road (A 500) Which links J15 & 16 of the M6 and my biggest problem is that drivers, particularly HGV and BMW, think that motorway rules apply and cyclists shouldn't' use it.

Hay ho!

Andy.

Hello everyone, new here so be gentle please? I am also relatively new to cycling in the on the road sense but have always loved bmx'ing etc and generally messing around. Now I've grown up (sort of) and am 43 I have matured in to a bianchi and a roubaix which I adore and am riding almost every day. I have lost 3 stone in 7 months so something is happening to me! I am learning all of the time about how to ride better and enjoy the science and psychology behind it all. My latest thing is pacing and I'm getting much better at that. No more blasting it hard straight off and blowing early. By pacing I am knocking a lot of IMF of of my segments. Next thing I want to conquer is climbing! Anyway that's me for now and I hope to make your acquaintance soon. Cheers.

Hi, I am hoping to get back into cycling after a period of over 20 years out of the saddle. I am trying to keep up with my 10 year old son, he can annihilate me at swimming, leaving me a puffing mess after running any distance over 100 metres and has only very recently started cycling and is already winning Triathlons. I know I am on to a loser, but I have to try to match him at something, so I have bought a Trek for my first stumbling steps, but have Sir Chris Hoy and Bradley Wiggins in my sights! Ever hopeful, but I will need lots of support and advice.

Hello

I'm Hilary, I'm a freelance copywriter and marketing type, I have 2 kids 9 and 5 and work for a company called The Little Bike Co with Simon and Beth the owners (the bike experts!) Keen to find out more about issues that effect families cycling. I'm also looking at a long summer with the kids and planning to get them out and active as much as possible, my son is yet to learn to ride (he's a little nervous - ironic considering my job !!!) but we're hoping to crack it this summer and get him riding on his own

Would love to hear any tips for conquering cycling nerves with a little one!

Lovely to meet you all,

Hilary x
