Hi folks!

I have been cycling on and off for donkeys years. As I live at the bottom of a valley and work is 8 miles away up the hill - was commuting to work on motor assisted pedal bike. I have, however, recently discovered the national cycle network which gives me an 11 mile commute around the hill largely off road on a normal, human powered, bike - loving it.

Thinking of upgrading my crappy cheap mountain bike that I've had for at least 10 years. Any comments on good choice for some road, some cycle path and some canal path cycling for up to £500.

Hi,
Very new to this forum, I have been riding a mountain bike for the past 20 years now taken up with a road bike as well. I have entered the ride London 100 for 2013 and there looks as if there is lots of info on this forum

I am sure I will find it hard at first but as people have said on this site- I will get easier !! Seems like a friendly, happy site to me

Hi Everyone,

Newbie looking to get into road cycling for fitness. Dodgy knee so figured it'd be better for it that running.

Hi T.W. yes cycling should be better for your knee than running.....as long as you get the right size bicycle, get it set up correctly, and ride it correctly. Lots of great advice on here about how to go about getting the set up right etc.......

Hi, I'm Joan. I'm from Michigan and mostly ride my bike for recreation. I occasionally ride to work, and quite a while with my kids. I go to the gym regularly and try keeping fit.

Hi, I'm Barry from Dublin, been cycling one way or another since I was a kid. I've rode mountain bikes, track bikes and road bikes over the years. Very much road bike oriented these days, I don't race, just enjoy clocking up the km's.

Hello one and all, new here too. ^_^

I am Michelle and i am 41 (man that is painful to type )

Recently started cycling, had been about 18yrs since i last went on a bike. And at the minute i am using my 9yrs olds bike until i buy my own one in a couple of months.
I started with making sure i could actually cycle by doing a wee 0.5 mile cycle just along the road and yesterday i ventured out alone for the first time and managed 15miles. Although my poor behind is rather tender from not being on a bike suited for me.

Very determined to get fit and lose some unwanted poundage that has creeped up on me these past few years:blush:

I am from NE Scotland and live with husband and and two boys. I am a part time dialysis nurse and i love it. Along with my new found love of cycling i enjoy long walks with the family in lovely country places. Loch Muick, Bennachie and the likes. Have loads of amazing places to wander up here. I do enjoy relaxing in a bubble bath getting lost in a book. Main genre is Paranormal romance ( i am a girl after all) and urban fantasy, yup you got it all that Vampires and the likes LOL

Anyway best stop nattering on ( i do that loads) and say that i am looking forward to getting to know you and getting fitter in the process :hello:

@Mo1959 being honest i have enjoyed my 40's so far, dont feel it and certainly dont act it.

Perthshire is beautiful bet you have some lovely places to cycle
Sure do..........although I hardly ever remember to take a camera or even the phone to capture some pics. Don't know your area very well. Used to holiday a lot in Stonehaven as a youngster but that's a good bit down the coast.
