Hi all, I'm not really a cyclist but I do use a bike to get around, bananas and chocolate are so much cheaper and tastier then petrol!
I've joined Cyclechat to get some ideas and feedback RE my 1947 Raleigh restoration. Check out the Classic and Vintage Forum for more details. Whilst there isn't much news there at the moment I hope to keep you all up to date on how its going and hopefully I'll be able to provide you with pictures along the way.

Hi have been cycling for most of my 45 years including several years of adrenalin fuelled commuting in London but always on a Hybrid. Recently bought my first road bike, a Specialized Dolce and wow what a difference. All my cyclist buddies at work told me i should get a road bike and i wish i had done it sooner as its so addictive. Just had two weeks off work in this fab weather doing early morning daily rides round my area of Kent for hours on end before it gets too hot or my back caves in. Trying to achieve a comfortable 2-3 hours in the saddle and then 50 miles in one go ( up to 30 so far). Its so addictive ! :-)

Hi Everyone, i am new to this site but have found it a wealth of info so far. I was hoping for some advice.
I am researching which bike to purchase for a short commute into work/shopping etc & was looking at the Pashley Britannia range, however it is very heavy (& i do live in a flat, albeit with a lift), i have also looked at Foffa bikes - which i really like the look of but have heard mixed reviews on, Tokyo bikes which i also like the styling on but know very little about. Could anyone advise me please on the best one to buy? I really like the Pashley & it has great room for baskets & bits & pieces, but is there a lighter version? Many Thanks

Hi, I'm David, from South Oxfordshire.

Just bought a Road Bike after around 25 years not having one. I used to cycle everywhere on a bike I built. I'm amazed at how they've changed.

I purchased a Merida Ride Lite 90, but about to take it back and trade up to a Mekk Poggio 1.5, I'm a little disappointed to have seen some negative feedback about Mekk on the forum, but I took one for a test ride and it seemed great, it's the only Carbon my LBS has in my budget!

Any advice?

Cheers,

David

Hello from Croydon.

Decided to take the plunge and start cycling again - not done much since I was a youngster.
Can't believe how complicated cycling equipment and gear seems to have got these days - you used to just have bikes with flat bars or race bikes back in the 70's.

Picking up my road bike this weekend and looking forward to my first ride and trawling the forum for all the stuff I don't know - which is a lot.

Evening all.

I'm an occasional, wannabe-more-often rider from London who feels like he's contestant number 3 on Blind Date posting this.

Looking forward to meeting you all, both virtually and IRL while probably drinking/walking up a hill.

Can I just say how frustrating picking a new bike is. I was convinced I was going to get a hybrid, but after going to various shops and looking around it seems I'm about to buy a road bike. I must be mad!

At the moment the Scott speedster S50 2013 is the winner. Although I reserve the right to change my mind again
