Hi all, friendly place you seem to have here. Just getting back into cycling after a 10 year break. Currently do 30 - 50 miles two/ three times a week and now with the imminent (allegedly) spring will be looking at commuting to work as well (45 mile round trip).

I'm Phil and have been cycling for a few years. Have got into it in a pretty fanatical way. Doing a few sportives this year including the Meon Valley Riser this Sunday coming but big ride this year is Geneva to Nice in August. Love bikes and definitely like the top end bits of kit whether it is because of their design or reliability. I have my own online bikeparts shop that I recently started so if you have any questions about bits I can probably answer them for you.

Hello everyone,
I have just joined the forum today, after ordering my first bike since I was a kid (some 40+ cough years ago) on Saturday, taking delivery this weekend.
Lived in London for the last 30+ years where I didn't need a car (tried Boris Bike occasionally but with London traffic stuck mostly to public transport), but moved "back home" to Bursledon, Southampton at the end of last year. Bought a bike (a) to get around a bit instead of relying on a suburban railway service that's 30 minutes walk away and only runs once an hour (b) to help get fit as I haven't been to the gym for over a year.
Had hoped to find a good local cycle group for beginners but looks like I will have to travel to Southampton City for that (the only local one I could find seems geared towards childen and families).
Am about to make my first post about the bike I've ordered and the bits and pieces I got with it to see if there's any comment over what's good/bad over in the "Beginners" forum.
Otherwise I'm enjoying reading what's here and reading other people's stories.
