Agree wholeheartedly with Arallsopp on "Nothing new on the day". Try to find food that you like (and importantly likes you) and make this your regular pre-long distance ride meal. Also find a fuel (I like fig rolls, I reckon a packet is good for 100 miles) that you feel works for you.

And the bit he missed off - Enjoy yourself. It's not meant to be torture unless you have a realistic plan to be on the podium in Paris come July.

Cheers for the advice guys - Yes I've already got my riding food dialed in from doing Tri's. Cereal bars and a Energy Gel or two seem to keep me going pretty well. As re distance I can do 50 miles pretty confortably, I guess it's just the step into the unknown, looking to crank up the miles in the next few weeks and see what's what...

Cheers

Hello!

If you're trying to reply to someone and quote their post just click the 'reply' link at the bottom right of their post. You should see what they have written in the box that you type in. Then when you post it should look something like you see here.

AFAIK it should work right away. If in doubt send a message to Admin, he will put you right.

Hi Elaine, :welcome:
Nice to have you along.

Keep your eyes peeled on the ''Informal Rides'' section. ColinJ often sorts out forum rides from Hebden Bridge which run through your neck of the woods.

Hello! Newbie from the UK Midlands here. I've just treated myself to a Ridgeback Velocity to replace my aging but much-loved Giant Boulder. I've signed up to hopefully pick up some tech tips from people who know more than I do. :-)

Hi,

My name is Astrid. From Belfast and last year decided to get back into cycling to help weight loss and just generally getting healthier. Got my bike in october and did use it before the bad weather set in but then as winter approached, made excuses. Now that the weather is picking up, i'm making a concentrated effort to get out & about

Hi Everybody, just like to introduce myself my name is Nigel I live in Shrewsbury, Shropshire UK, i've been cycling since a child, no wonder my legs ache as i'm 44 this April.

I've come accross this forum via a suggestion from a member of a motorcycle forum I'm on.

I'm an occassional cyclist own a racing bike and a mountain bike well that loosely describes it. Keep threatening to get it on the back of the car and driving to the nearest canal network and ride the tow paths. Trying to get my wife on a bike so we can go places together in the nice summer we're hopefully hoping to have.

Hello,

My name is Laura and I ride a Pashley Poppy in Blush pink. Shamelessly girly and kitsch but hey who cares!?

I live in Herts near the River Lee. Can't wait to cycle in the sun.

Hope you don't mind me asking what do you think of your bike? I thought of buying my wife one she particularly likes the traditional style, although is a bit put off by the price as she will only ride it during the spring summer, she has looked at some cheaper copies but sometimes it's worth paying the extra and getting something original.
