Bunch of morons. Just be better than them, blank them and remember they really do mean nothing to you. You don't know them. They don't know you. So what if they get a dumb thrill out of hurling some abuse? I know it is hard to keep it in check when a situation arises but try and focus on the fact you will be going home to a full and rich life while they are probably returning to their p0rn collection and their right hand...

I'm so trying hard to be like that (not the p0rn and right hand btw )

Would love to know who they were, can't see it being a club, we ride in Cornwall every year, [In fact will be just outside Bude from Tue 1st to Mon 6th June] and why would anyone behave like that in such a beautiful place. Wish I had been with you. Not real cyclists in my book.

And there I was, thinking how friendly English cyclists are compared to Australian cyclists. It's strange how my glasses have developed a rose tint since leaving the UK.

Never encountered anything like this.
Admittedly SOME roadies can be a bit standdoffish though.
Are you sure it wasn't misplaced humour?
Or something you inferred which wasn't intended?

I agree with some other comments, definitely a good deal of snobbery in cycling, make sme laugh, never encountered it in 30 years of scootering and motorcycling. Many uber-cyclists out there.

I have 3 bikes, a Discovery 501 hybrid, a Ridgeback Horizon tourer/audax and a 1990's £50 GT MTB, so, nothing "cool", uber road cyclists never aknowledge me and I am met with complete distain when on the MTB (uber MTB'ers are worse than uber-roadies IMO).

Wobbly Wheels, don't take it to heart, they have the problem, not you, laugh at them, give them the finger, tell them to FO, I do.

PS forgot, I have 4, a Dahon Speed 7 folder, I do get aknowledged on that.

Been riding 30 odd years in England and never once witnessed (from either side) what the OP is talking about.

As you can see from the comments, they guys you met are a minority.

My weekend rides are often in areas where racing clubs do their training and even in a fast peloton, every rider will say hello to me. I'm by no means a 'proper' cyclist

I ride a bent { recumbent bike} and was called a invalid who shouldnt be out on my own!! made me smile as it shows how pathetic and ignorant some people are, just ignore the tossers and enjoy what ever bike you ride .

This year I was heading out to the Wolds on a very narrow lane when I met an oncoming peleton. They acted as if I wasn't there and I was pushed right onto the edge of the road to avoid a collision.
