Proper cyclists!

Really pee'd off this evening. Missed cycling for a while for health reasons, ( bit of Osteoarthritis causing probs, and lack of get up and go), but recently been having a real go at getting out at least a few times a week, even if it's just round the village and back. ( And I'm really enjoying it!)

Theres a good cycle/ walking route round about, and thougt I'd have a nice leisurely ride, no fuss, when a few lycra clad all flashy bike riders came along. They were in a group so I slowed and pulled up so they could go past. Got some shouts along the lines of get off the road, get a proper bike, better off walking, go home & get a taxi, leave the road to the professionals, get off the road was said by a few of them. (I was riding properly, and safely at the time, not a really flashy bike, and its a ladies step through, as I have problems lifting my legs up and over.)

Didn't know you had to be all dolled and riding the best flashiest bike to be allowed on the road. Silly me, got all hot and bothered, cross and it really ruined my ride home.

I hope it's just a few who make nasty comments, I know most are genuinely nice people, but for not so confident, and newish riders like me, they can be really off putting.
Sory for posting a rant, and the spelling, fingers a bit stiff tonight!

dont apologies i know what you mean. snobbery goes on in all walks of life but i feel it is very prevalent in cycling, real shame., they should be shouting encouragement

i played rugby and there was none of that

In 45 years of cycling I have never come across anything like that, I can only presume that it was misplaced humour.

If I didn't live at the other end of the country, I would be contacting you right now to see id you fanceid going out for another nice chilled out leisurely ride at your own pace.
Don't worry about it, there are ar**holes in all walks of life.
Cycling is no exception.
I've had that too.
Once I was out on my road bike and a group of 20 somethings went past on mountain bikes, not a civil word, just loads of attitude.
Then when I go out on the hybrid, the roadies don't want to know either.
Conversely, the older riders I pass, on any sort of bike generally seem to be very encouraging.

I wouldn't want to be associated with tossers like the other lot either.

Cycle on my man - and enjoy it.
At your pace.

Just being on the bike is all that matters.
You're just as entitled to do it as they are.

Sounds like they had all the gear and no idea. You do get some arrogant f***wits on expensive bikes. Just don't tar all roadies with the same brush.

You get knobheads in all walks of life. I'm sure most serious cyclists aren't like that. Don't let it put you off.

I have to say, every other cyclist I've met locally has been fine. Some say hello, others wave, or nod, most smile at least. At least they didn't comment on my weight, It could have turned nasty. I might have fallen on them...
Anyway, I've had a nice glass of wine, and everything is looking better, think I'll put it down perhaps to experience, and have a few put downs of my own to hand for if it hsappens again.

Most of the roadies I see just appear to be colour blind when it comes to traffic lights

Don't let it put you off - as a larger lady on a bike, I have had this crap too from drivers and pedestrians. One single brain celled organism said something about my tyres being flat (clever witty boy  ) and his girlfriend gave him an earful about not being a dick :becool:
