It's been a chilly day, bright early doors, but then clouding over later, with showers and spectacular rainbows.

Didn't sleep terribly well. Had to get up and do some stretches as my back was cramping. Spent the morning in the company of a friend and her dogs, having a brisk walk around the local playing fields. Was definitely woolly hat and gloves territory. Picked up some nice books in the book exchange - three cook books (two Nigella Lawson, one Gennaro Contaldo), a book on a Belgian expedition to Antarctica that the parental will enjoy reading, and a book on watercolour techniques.

Lovely luncheon of rye bread, pate, wensleydale cheese, fruit and a :cuppa:

Caught up on the chores, watched some horse racing from Cheltenham, and then toddled off into town to do a full shop and a spot of yellow stickering. Waitrose drew a blank - nothing I particularly wanted at prices I was happy to pay. Tesco wasn't much better. Nothing at all in the fruit & veg and the chilled reductions were decidedly ungenerous, so again, I didn't bite. However, green bins yielded a slightly squashed box of rice krispies, about ten assorted tins of tomatoes, chickpeas and kidney beans and four hundred Earl Grey teabags, while the in-store bakery produced a loaf of sourdough bread, some croissants and thirty two HCB.

Supper was soup, fried egg & avocado on toast, then the last of the cheesecake-stuffed pancakes.

Now sat by the fire watching MOTD.

Have you ever tried the sweets, Salmiakki is salted* Liquorice. I had a Finnish girlfriend and once when her sister came over to visit Marika bought several bags over with her and Sari gave me one to try, Absolutely revolting and lasted about 10 seconds before I spat it out to the sounds of the 3 Sisters cackling with glee, luckily the 3rd sister Taria had laid on a bottle of Vodka as it was the first time in 18 months all 3 had been together and I had a glass of that to hand to get rid of the taste.

* The Salt used is Ammonium Chloride/Sal Ammoniac

No. And nor would I ever, since I absolutely despise the flavour of liquorice

A 4000 word report has cost me £100 and it's easily good enough to pass imo.

I'm increasingly busy with viva's and investigations for possible third-party commissioned work and the number has taken off over the past year. Anything that'll help us learn about how to detect commissioned work and design it out is useful as we're highly unlikely to be going back to in-person exams.

This can also help feed into deterrent activity which stops students from considering this route as an option rather than writing their own submission.

Makes me wonder where these students cough up the cash from... I spent my time in academia desperately sticking to a budget. Blowing £100 or however much on getting someone to do a complete assignment for me would never have crossed my mind.

Umm, well, there was the time someone untangled one of my slightly fubared 3d CAD assignments for me because a) he was better at it than me and b) he was more skint than me and the two beers were welcome...
