I have just been out to put our bins out. We had blue sky and grey cloud but it has clouded over now. The wind wasn't blowing that strong, a bit of a breeze but our recycling bin and bird feeder had fainted in the wind.

One hour into the red warning for my area, lights still on so far here, but off in other places. Still too dark to really see what is happening outside.

183km/hr gusts recorded somewhere in Galway, apparently the highest windspeed ever recorded in the country.

Another six hours of red weather warning left to go!

Good morning from Suffolk where it's a dark, overcast and damp start to the day after overnight rain. The wind's not too bad round this way (a maximum gust of 30mph is the best I've seen) and I hope those elsewhere aren't too badly affected.

Coffee has been had and I think this morning's breakfast cereal will be Weetabix. There's some bike felltling to do which should keep me busy for a while today.

Just been put on standby - dad had a suspected mini-stroke overnight and is being taken to the doctor's later on. Both my step & half brothers are working so I may be called upon to take him to hospital if needed should transport not be arranged by the quacks.

I think I might have over done it. I haven't done a great deal this week but the way I am at the moment it seems to have been too much. 2 days I cycled 12 miles. The last ride I was trying to catch a lady cyclist 200 yards ahead of me. Seeing cyclist's in the distance is like they are wearing a target. I finally caught up with her but I was puffed out! I cycled back chatting to her. Later that day I walked to and from the Men's Shed and chatted, 2 miles. The next day I rested. Yesterday I walked into town , chatted with my friends and walked home, 3 miles. So not a marathon but a bit too much for me at the moment.

Ours is a cheap Aldi one.
Turned it full up,plonked the bread on top of the bacon fat and spread some butter on top.
Turned it after a few minutes to do the other side.
RESULT

Not sure it's worth getting an expensive one, mine has a temperature control & a clockwork timer, quite adequate.
