I got halfway to the dentist yesterday (15 min walk) & then called the wife to drive me the rest of the way. I'm just too nervous about falling on ice these days.

It is very easy to come a cropper. I always wonder why roads get treated but never the pavements.

I have a pair of ice gripper things from Mountain Warehouse but have never been able to get them to stay on my shoes.

Pulling old socks over your shoes works well.

Think the problem with pavements is the Local Highway Authority (County or unitary council) often have such a wide area to cover maintaining the vehicular highway is taking all the time. Think it would be better to make pavements a responsibility of parish councils.
Harrogate when North Yorkshire let it manage its highways had a pavement sweeper which could have a plough attached and a small trailer full of grit attached. I presume it either wore out or has been kidnapped to Northallerton by North Yorkshire. Such could be owned by a parish or a group of them and employed locally.

The overnight bag has been packed and is by the front door ready for Friday's away day. I still need to decide how many layers of warm clothing I'm going to need given that there's going to be about 45 minutes standing around at Ipswich station on Friday and the same at Peterborough and possibly an hour at Ipswich (depending on the bus replacement timing) on Saturday.

In other news HMRC have changed my tax coding yet again as 'your untaxed interest on savings and investments has been reduced'. I really hope they don't get the figures correct in their favour any time soon.

After a morning of home work and a trip to our local Tescos. I'd had enough of being stuck in side so with a bit of planning as which shops I needed to call at. It was on with the yaktrax's and off into town on a steady walk. Good job I did as the large part of pavements are a no go with some help. Once in town it was not bad and a handy low wall out side the shops. So getting in and out of my yaktrax's was simple enough
I one went into the local Tesco's wearing a pair of crampons. Roads and pavements were icy, and they wanted to close early.
Waved in without realising what was on the boots. They were only noticed when I got to the frozen section, then at the back of the store.

The BBC Travelling Auctioneers programme is a rip off! They repaired am oak writing desk and sold it for £8. Some radio controlled aerplanes with an Enya glow plug engine for £5.
A Grandfather clock was sold for £4, hammer price, at a local auctioneers today.
Even the case is/was worth more than that.

After yesterday's excitement I settled for a 20 km pootle around the lanes.
Some snow still lurking along with deceptive puddles.
It was windy and colder than the sunshine made me expect.
The lack of much cycling recently was also quite evident.
