An interesting day and very relaxing. :becool:

We all got to finish work at ten as we've finished everything and won't be assigned any new work with the training next week.

After pottering around town and getting a few bits and pieces, I put the Brompton in the car and went to a nature reserve which has an 8km shared path around it and cycled that and did a loop of the small island that you can cross to over a causeway.

Gear cable failure left me in 3rd gear and a few hills to walk but it was all very relaxing and peaceful with nice views and I fitted in a cafe stop too and sampled a slice of very nice carrot cake. A total of 17 really leisurely miles completed.

Miss P is putting her foot on the housing ladder, she is viewing a terraced house in Sorby Bridge this week end. This is her first move after always renting, think about her please. It would be wonderful for her.Thank you all.

Wonderful, get used to the smell of emulsion and the flashing of colour swatches.
It's hard and demanding. 50 odd years ago it was hard enough.
We didn't have the benefit of BoM&D. But today there are many downsides

Precisely. And far too many folk have absolutely no idea what 'living within your means' actually does mean.
Although much of the blame has to be attributed to much more easily accessible credit in the last twenty or so years.
We appear to be getting more & more like the U.S.A. where achieving a better and better credit rating begins pretty much the day you leave school and is essential to be able to get on in life.

The break in the weather did not last and rain appeared.
Went up to the dump with some clothing for recycling and stuff for the charity shop. That part of the dump is still closed off after my last visit a couple of weeks ago and a row of unmarked bins left out. Came home with everything as it is too good to go to landfill.
While up there went in to the newish industrial estate to a butcher shop in one of them. Whole front blocked off by a large van so obviously not open. Stopped instead at the cheese farm shop which does locally produced bacon and got a couple of packs.

As predicted the Lighthouse Path is now closed due to some slippage.

I keep an emergency £10 note in a thin credit card holder for leisure bike rides. Theres a £1 coin in the car for shopping trolley if needed.
An old £1 coin?
Most, if not all trolleys are/were designed to take them not the new ones. Replacement mechanisms cost close to £100.

Finally had a couple of hours free this afternoon so got the bike out and buggered off - only to return home half an hour later to swap bikes due to a very slow puncture which will need to be tracked down and fixed on Saturday. Got home to find an envelope containing a Nectar card and a note from mum asking me to activate it for her as she and my stepfather don't have any computers or smart phones and there's no other way of doing it apparently.

One of those strange afternoons that actually got brighter later in the day as the cloud started to clear, cold but a much needed blast of fresh air.

It's been a grey and cool day here chez Casa Reynard.

Did not sleep well, as my knee kept complaining every time I turned over in bed. And my mind wouldn't switch off. So had a quiet morning puttering about doing some chores that needed doing. Filling up the wood bins, disposing of the mouse that ventured into the upstairs box trap, then rebaiting and resetting the trap. Peanut butter works a treat btw. Also emptied the trailer and stacked yesterday's wood in the garage ready for cutting up.

Found the hitch bolt which I thought I'd misplaced. Actually, it was in the bottom of the trailer where I thought I'd put it back in the spring, but it had decided to hibernate under a load of bark scraps... Whoops! All I need to do is find my favourite pair of safety glasses, as those seem to have done a runner. I have another pair, but they've a tendency to steam up.

Went and did another load of lumberjilling. Found a patch that I'd left half done back in the spring, and managed to bring in a decent amount of oak, cherry and hazel. Slow going though, as I really need to replace the chain on the saw. After a couple of winters' hard use, it's rather unredeemable. I will pop into Ernest Doe on Monday when I go to Littleport to pick up the parental's prescription. Sure, I could get the chains somewhat cheaper at Screwfix, but I drive past Doe's when I go to the quack, whereas Witchford is on the other side of Ely. And in any case, it's nice to support an independent trader, and they're always so helpful with stuff.

Did fish and chips for supper. Home made triple-cooked chips alongside the beer-battered haddock I bought in Tesco on Wednesday. The fish was bloody lovely, and I'd really recommend it.
